I concluded a while ago that Kevin’s father works for the mob, probably the accountant that launders their money. How else do you think he can afford that house and a trip to Paris for twelve people? So if they had successfully robbed the house, or if he ever found out about what they put his son through, Harry and Marv would have been really wet bandits-because they’d be sleeping with the fish.

Given the amount of punishment they took from Kevin, I don't think the mob could actually kill them.
I think Harry and Marv are just a pair of down on their luck Elder Gods who forgot about their phenomenal cosmic powers.

It was an inside job. Sadly it ended up all going south after Harry was assassinated for killing a made man.

Simple: he didn’t pay for the trip. When Kate and Kevin meet Harry (disguised as a police officer) she says that her husband’s brother misses the family and “he’s giving us all this trip to Paris for the holidays so we can be together.” I’d like to know what Uncle Rob and Aunt Georgette do for a living, since not only can they afford an international flight for 15 people, but they have an apartment in Paris AND a townhouse in New York.

Or they're Immortals from the Highlander series, so if only one of Kevin's traps managed to decapitate Harry and Marv then not only Kevin would have been rid of them for good but he also would have been two steps closer to the prize.

Kevin getting Kurgan to step on Legos is content too pure for this world.

Yeah, Uncle Frank seems resentful to a degree, and Peter McCallister is still doing well for himself, but Uncle Rob has got to be pretty loaded. I remember hearing, accurately or not, that there was some stage where it'd have been that Uncle Frank hired the burglars, but I am kind of glad they didn't go that route. It'd have been an unnecessary layer of complexity, and Frank works better as just a petty annoyance. I do know they were going to cast Kelsey Grammer but he was unavailable, maybe this was more of an idea that'd have been suited to him and they dropped it, if it was ever the case at all.

Yeah, if you ever watched this video and/or read Mick Foley’s book Foley is Good, those Sticky/Wet Bandits are very extremely lucky to be alive. Much like Homer Simpson, they must have had the life expectancy of Looney Tunes characters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm53BnikXTI&t=289s

Yeah, Uncle Frank being the reason the wet bandits struck the house is pretty dumb. The fact they are just random burglars works way better. But yeah, they state pretty outright Rob is the one that bought the tickets for the flight to Paris not Kevin's dad. Also I mean... what could the mob do to Harry and Marv that is worse than what Kevin put them through...

I do know the director added the old man storyline to give some more emotional gravity to the story, which was a good call, but yeah, I can't picture the movie working anywhere near as well if it's some inside job.

I'd say they were lucky, considering the Old Man was a serial killer, that they didn't end up murdered and turned into mummies.

I've seen some very gory horror films and have been fine, but I still close my eyes when Marv steps on the nail.

I've seen some very gory horror films and have been fine, but I still close my eyes when Marv steps on the nail. No shit. That's absolutely perfect, pace, sound, camera work... everything. A masterwork 2 seconds of gore. The other one that gets me is the abnormally long blowtorch to head gag. Something about the extra time crammed into the action shot makes the stomach queasy. Excellent work!

Makes you appreciate all that goes in to the production of a good script. Also kind of interesting to know about it and see where some elements of it remained; as much as they bicker Kevin’s siblings are still worked about him while Frank is completely unconcerned.

I think Frank's complete assholery makes the story more relatable. I feel like nearly everybody fights with family but at the end of the day we still care when shit gets serious... but also nearly everybody has that one (often more) family members that literally give zero shits and only care about money and themselves. Basically everybody knows their own Uncle Frank... and hopefully you aren't the Uncle Frank of your family.

I found out they cut a lot of scenes with the other family members, supposedly because they felt they took time away from Kevin’s story and wanted to play up his conflict with Buzz in particular, and they could have gone a long way in showing the family dynamics. Heck, they got Big Pete of Pete & Pete Fame, and while he had his moments in the first movie, by the second his only lines were in the “Give this to Kevin/Kevin’s not here” scene.
