I’m shocked so many people saying Rock/Austin at Mania X-Seven, I felt that was incredibly telegraphed. 12 months on the shelf, 18 months since he had been champ, a hot heel in HHH who had fluked out a win over him at the last PPV, and they were in f***ing Texas for their first stadium WrestleMania in almost 10 years. Everything about that build up said “Austin walking out with the gold”
What did catch me off guard was the heel turn, but even that in hindsight was foreshadowed by the incredible sit down interview between the 2 a week or two before the show

Honestly most title matches from 1998-02 or so. They changed the title so often that you never knew if they were going to give it to someone for a few weeks just as a high spot in the story. I'd say in that era there were only a handful of times where the outcome WASN'T up for grabs - the notable ones being Angle vs Rock at No Way Out 2001 (was sure Rock was winning) and even as a half-smark teenager I knew there was no way Austin was dropping the title to Jericho or Benoit at KOTR 2001.

Hogan vs Goldberg in 98. Granted I wasn't a smark during those days. But in hindsight, this was Hogan during his whole "creative control" days and not even a PPV but a random Nitro.

The ONE REASON I bought WrestleMania XIX was the announcement of Angle vs. Brock. Two NCAA Amateur guys now in the sports entertainment world. Who can win?
THAT'S how you draw eyes to your product. As it's been said many times: "When the fans don't know and have to buy a ticket to find out, THAT'S where you win as a promoter."

Warrior-Hogan WM6. My dad took me to see it on Closed Circuit TV at a movie theater and these 2 kids in front of me kept turning around making fun of me for wearing a Hogan T-Shirt. My dad stood up and told them to knock if off and they shut the hell up for the rest of the show.

Being only 10 at the time and not seeing how significant the buildup was I had no idea if Shawn or Bret were Winning The Iron Match

When it was going on...Hogan/Warrior. I just couldnt see either man ever being pinned clean, especially Hogan. That was impossible.
