Because my jobs have gotten cheaper over the years in regards to our Christmas parties and twice over the last five years I got food poisoning. It’s only not higher because I didn’t go to the rest out of protest. One of our bosses took the Christmas party money and paid her boyfriend to cater at his bar/restaurant. Three of us got food poisoning from the chicken. My current boss decided to have Christmas pot luck…during work hours. They reheated the leftovers yesterday and I was vomiting into the bar trash can while I was closing and 12 hours later I can barely keep water down.
For comparisons sake…my first year with the same company our boss took us all to a nice restaurant and provided us with lots of nice wine. We all had a wonderful time and no one almost ended up in the hospital. (First time I almost made it 24 hours without being able to hold liquids which is IV time.)

At other jobs? Yes.
At my current job? No. I had Covid and when I came back to work the place looked like a tornado had hit and my co-workers were acting like Superman just came back from the dead.

The company I work for is in a business park across the street from an oil refinery. About seven years ago there was an explosion at the refinery big enough to register as a 1.2 earthquake. Huge cloud of smoke. Flare towers belching out sheets of flame like I have never seen before or since. Ambulances and fire trucks racing past with sirens screaming. Work ordered us to “shelter in place” as if we wouldn’t be in the crater if the whole refinery went up. After half an hour, HR realized that people were just leaving anyways and said we could leave if we “didn’t feel safe”. The building was empty within ten minutes.

They decided, against everyone's wishes, to build a fancy ass new hockey rink in my city. They decided, against everyone's wishes, to build it way the f*** out of town. They decided, to build it within the blast zone of a fertilizer plant and a natural gas plant who both said, "Hey f***os, not that we're planning on it, but if anything ever happens, you're all dead" Since it was a city idea, they changed the zoning laws and built the f***ing thing. I don't work there, luckily, but am in the organization.

My last job basically made me fire myself, because they wanted me to work with my disabilities, for 13 hour days.
I've had covid twice, where I am, now, and they've made sure I am okay. My first week back, from the second bout, a family friend passed away, and they granted me the day off for the funeral.

As in fire? Or kill?
Because my supervisor would love if EITHER happened.

My last boss hated me, tried to demoted me from beverage manager/floor all the way dowm to just shift, tried to fire me 4 times before he finally got his wish when he won a power struggle with the owners son. Granted the thing I eventually got fired for is completely understandable and honestly was deserved.

Also it ended up being that lovely stomach bug going around because two other bartenders that were working that day also got it and all of our families. Work going all out trying to take the kids out too. Only worked there since May 30th and had the stomach bug, Covid and a mini stroke for good measure.
