Mitchell Tenpenny looks like his name should be Mitchell Tenpenny.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has found the sampling of hit songs these days rather lazy.

I've hated that Tenpenny goon ever since he blackmailed CJ in San Andreas!

Wasn't ABCDEFU an honorable mention on last year's list? Also interesting is that I think this is the first Worst Songs video of his that uses an actual song on the list for the transition between items on it. I still have to watch the video. But it does feel like a lot of this list is a response to the "Tiktokification" of pop music to be absolutely shallow and putrid outside of a small, catchy hook to put in Tiktok posts and Instagram reels. It really was, ADoseofBuckley's list was very much the same sort of take down, though both chose very different songs/placements and even ways they tackled how bad something was if it made the list itself TikTok really might be the next way to funnel out One Hit Wonder factories, because it really feels like most people like Gayle or Jax who got their big hits off Tiktokification are going to immediately sink back into the void, especially in Gayle's case, because her other hits and album FLOPPED, and it flopped BADLY. Unless they're as bound and determined as Bebe Rexha or Meghan Trainor is to stay revelent lmfao

This list introduced me to Jax, and I kinda hate Todd for that. I feel kinda bad for her, she seems to actually trying to be making good intentioned songs, but it's like Todd and even Buckley said, "This shit isn't new, and it feels incredibly fake to try and drum up self confidence" It's why I wish Todd could have tackled Numb Little Bug in this list but I don't think it met his credentials, where Buckley will rip anything that dared to make a noise lol The story that gets me most about Jax though is people in the comments saying multiple schools in her area had to sing tribute songs for her in choir and do big welcomes for her, whole "HOMETOWN HERO" spiel and NO ONE knew who she was because she was HOMESCHOOLED, she did not ever go to any of the schools that were making a big deal out of her and most of the kids didn't even watch American Idol (Which outside of Scarypoolparty's run they missed nothing since it came back tbh)

Todd was spot on about how just because a song has positive message, it doesn't excuse it from being shit.

That was true for me until 2009 when Owl City released "Fireflies." Then Lukas Graham released Seven Years in 2016 and that ended the debate. There is your winner. I can’t see me actually hating a song more than that. I get the sentiment but my god. It actually angered me

That is pretty shitty to do, though.
And yeah, as Todd said, it's like blatant influence pandering in song form. "RT if you think cancer is bad!" (not using the example from the video cause rule 1 lol). Like, yeah it is bad! But how does retweeting that actually accomplish anything?

Yeah, he mentions that it'd have to happen eventually ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) and for number one the first time I heard it I was almost convinced someone was playing a prank on me... that this couldn't possibly be a real song. also for the Jax song "Victoria's secret she was made up by a dude!"the Victoria in Victoria's Secret is Queen Victoria... who... existed... (well specifically it was meant as a reference to Victorian clothing which was generally seen as refined.. and secret cause underwear.) edit:

Also the company was founded by a married couple, and the husband killed himself in the 90's. Their current CEO is also a woman and they've had several women in leadership and executive roles in the company, including CEO's.
So yeah. I'm not defending Victoria's Secret or the sort of body-shaming image they've sold their products on. But a lot of the song's lyrics are inaccurate and/or outright wrong. Also the song does its own body-shaming of skinny women, which isn't cool at all.

also as others have pointed out it seems pretty out dated to be doing this type of song at VS... by like 10-15 years >_>

Yeah Buckley pointed this out more than Todd but trying to get the point across that a woman can't be skinny with big boobs is just another form of body dysmorphia in the way that some girls are the way they are and it has nothing to do with a magazine cover. That's when you lean too hard into body positivity, when you're only positive about certain ways bodies look. It's also what makes the song feel way more hollow and more shallow,in the way it tries to bring something down to prove a point Only thing Jax proved is how messy the song is.
