I'll just remind people all of this, including Orton assaulting HHH's wife and in-laws...
was a "HHH loses the title if he's DQ'd" match.

Like, this was a company that had people pull stuff out of the ring to basically bash into the audience what match they were going to blow off their feud with on almost every PPV cycle. How do you make a feud so personal and backtrack at the last minute?

Have a feud with a ladder match, cage match, hardcore match, and dog collar match all on free TV to build to a PPV match. Which is a one fall normal wrestling match.

Why would they admit they made this Valiant home invader babyface Triple H Same reason they remind everyone about the time Mae Young gave birth to a hand.

I have no recollection of this, it must have happened during one of my many sabbaticals to retain my sanity from Vince’s booking.

Forget the home invasion, the most heinous thing in the segment is the terrible aesthetic taste in Orton's fake house. Him and his fake wife really should have gone for something a bit classier.

How do you make a feud so personal and backtrack at the last minute? Triple H sometimes was so bad about that kind of thing, like locking up with Roman Reigns in their 'Mania match after the feud had been so bloodied and personal. So, naturally, they should just begin like a normal-ass match at the end of a dreadfully long 'Mania. It still is such an odd choice on WWE's part. It is a bit like how WWE oddly did not do a single Hell in a Cell match in 2001. Like, you'd think that'd have been a good thing to dust off at some point during the InVasion, maybe, or the Three Stages of Hell instead of a regular cage match, but they just didn't for whatever reason. I know that Triple H vs Cactus Jack would be a hard one to follow for quality, or the Armageddon match for scale, but you'd figure that'd have been an easy option to raise the stakes.

From what rumors said Triple H being out half the year would be the reason. Supposedly he wanted the Cell to be his match. In 2002 he was supposed to have campaigned for Brock Taker to be a Texas Death Match because of that. If he had not gone out in 2001 I am sure we would have had an Austin H Cell match as part of the Power Trip storyline.

I don't fully disagree with the logic behind it, given obviously the Cactus Jack match was huge for his career, but then why not have it in the 3 Stages of Hell match? Unless the cage was easier to transport or something.

So, naturally, they should just begin like a normal-ass match at the end of a dreadfully long 'Mania.. Another weird thing about both of those matches is Triple H makes both of them look awful. There's like a five minute stretch in the Orton match where Orton doesn't get in any offense whatsoever, while with the Reigns one he basically just spends the entire thing getting destroyed, hits a spear through the barricade, hits one on Stephanie, hits one on Triple H, and that's like all of his offense in the entire match.

And the latter, honestly, looks worse when you remember HHH only wrestled twice before the match that year. Barely any time in the Rumble and against Ambrose. And he still got a lot offense over someone who wrestled way more.

It's kind of especially weird since for the Ambrose match he actually did give him a lot of offense.

And from what I know of the Ambrose match from Moxley’s book, a lot of that was REALLY requested by him and he was lucky to get what he got.

It is so goddamn weird, too, given how comparatively fantastic his match with Bryan was. Clearly, he knew how to have a fast and exciting match, and one with palpable tension (that Tiger Suplex, despite being safe, still came off like he was trying to end Bryan's career), and then he just has a bunch of snoozers outside of outliers like Ambrose. The Batista retirement was decent and had the right tone, at least, it was just like a third too long.
