As a history buff I am currently reading a book about Brunhilde, a real life Frankish Queen who may have inspired the Valkyrie of Central European folklore, most famous for appearing in Wagner’s opera. And I do find myself rather interested in how events from the real Brunhilde’s life very much reflect the story of Brunhilde the Valkyrie.
But nonetheless, I can’t help but keep thinking of Bugs Bunny riding a fat horse dressed in drag.

Me and my wife reference this bit constantly. Probably my third favorite Looney Tunes short, after Hair-Raising Hare and Yankee Doodle Daffy.

was there really a spear and magic helmet? In folklore, the most common story of Brunhilde is of her angering her father by disobeying him so he sets her on a mountain surrounded by a ring of flames that only the man destined to marry her could save her from. At the climax of Wagner’s opera, as her beloved is set in a funeral pyre, Brunhilde hefts her spear, mounts her horse, and belts a high note as she charges into the flames to be reunited with him, hence the phrase “It’s not over till the fat lady sings.”

They put a lot more thought into that cartoon than we ever realized youtu.be/YC6f8FbnVMQ

I loved that at the end of the calamities that Elmer conjured with his magic helmet, he finishes with a shout of “Smog!!!” Sure, smog sucks but that was the follow up to typhoons, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Talk about burying the lede.

Did anyone else find it hot when bugs bunny would put on a dress and pretend to be a girl bunny? Pretend...or like some trickster gods actually become for a short time? Hard to tell with certain looks:

Did anyone else find it hot when bugs bunny would put on a dress and pretend to be a girl bunny? No lie, that thought never occurred to me. It was obvious, however, that the artists for Space Jam had put some thought into it and went all in when designing Lola.
