I am not one of the younger ones (Born in 1987), but frequently over the years when I'd be discussing with my friends our fading interest in WWE, we'd often end with "I just hope there are kids out there who love this stuff as much as we loved Hogan, Bret Hart, and Steve Austin". When I see people nostalgic for 2010 and stuff, that makes me happy.

When I see people nostalgic for 2010 and stuff, that makes me happy. Nostalgia is a drug, but at the same time, the content from back then is not going to spark the same type of happiness. I bought TMNT 1987, for example, and it was painful going through the third season. When I was 6 or so, I was a huge TMNT fan, had the shirts, tapes, and even a pin. Wrestling is strange for me because the stuff from the 1980s and 1990s (not the Attitude Era) holds up, even the godawful New Generation stuff.

I kind of get the impression discussion forums like this aren't really frequented by many fans like 20 or younger anymore. Boards like this were everywhere in the 2000s but not so much now. It seems like younger fans are more likely to be on Twitter, Instagram and maybe Discord/Reddit. The people in charge here and the general community deserve a lot of credit because I feel like 90% of boards like this died or turned into ghost towns 5-10 years ago but FAN is still super active. FAN clearly needs to work on the young demo let's start a dance on that there Tickity Tocks.

I was already a jaded IWC smark by the 2010s, but for the mid-late 00s its true that Cena was popular but basically no one thought he was cooler or better than The Undertaker.
However in 2012 there was a verrrrrrrrrry brief period in high school where beating the shit out of a dude or otherwise owning them was referred to by quite a few people as uh, "Rybacking" them.

Time is a weird thing in wrestling, simply because the talent are living longer and taking better care of themselves as opposed to the absolute insanity of the 70's and 80's.
For comparisons sake, seeing someone like Hogan or Flair come out on WWE TV to wrestle today would be like seeing Lou Thesz or Karl Gotch show up on Raw in 1998.

You know it’s funny, I’ve been on this board on and off since early 2006. Heck, I remember following Wrestlemania 22 on this board. And it kind of tickles me to think about how that era is now seen as a nostalgic blast from the past. And it’s even more funny to realize that the mood back then was mostly negative. Like you would think the Ruthless Aggression era was the worst thing ever if you re-read those thread back then.
And really that never changed in the 2010s. But I’m sure right now, you will have people who will swear the 2010s were WWE’s golden age. That’s just the nature of things. In 10 years you will also get fans out of the woodwork who will swear up and down that Roman Reign’s near three year run as champ was the greatest thing ever.

[walks in licking a gigantic oversized lollipop] So I actually turn 24 in about a week, and now that I'm realizing I'm an infant, here's my $0.02: * I started watching in early 2010 and stopped in like 2013. I felt like I "grew out of it" at that point....and here I am again, probably more into wrestling than I was at that age. Funny how it works. * HBK, Edge and Punk were my favorites of the main event guys. I was wrecked when HBK retired. Which is funny, because I hadn't been watching for that long, but my friend showing me the HBK-Taker "Running Up That Hill" video is what kickstarted my love for wrestling. * I was a lil smark and hated Cena for some reason. I was also PISSED when Orton beat Christian for the title. My aformentioned friend loved Cena and Orton. That was a funny contrast. * I was also a huge JoMo fan. I was rooting for him so hard to kick Miz's ass for the title on, like, New Year's Day 2011. He's still my guy. I really wish he could've gotten a title run at some point. I came back to wrestling in 2021, actually, after watching Dark Side of the Ring and becoming weirdly nostalgic for WWE. Honestly, even then, when most people here (as I found out later, lmao) were at their most down on the product, I was f***ing blown away by how much BETTER it was when I was a kid. I thought, by the time I tuned out, everyone was just kinda bland dudes who couldn't wrestle (Sandow, pre-Bar Sheamus, Del Rio, Swagger) or olds (Show, Kane), whereas now I feel like generally everyone has a defined character and can work a damn good match. Plus, there's an actual women's division and much less comedy crap. I always find it funny how I have a reverse nostalgia for that time. I just think about a recent Deadlock podcast where they were saying if you grew up around then deadman Undertaker was your guy and SVR08 was your game lmao Also, can confirm, lol

I pity those kids for they will never know the true wonder of watching a man dressed as a clown wrestle an overweight man dressed as an African cannibal warrior or a man in a Lone Ranger mask wrestle another man dressed like Baron Samedi.

I started watching at the tail end of Hulkamania after the Flair/Savage feud hooked me, but I stuck around for the Cena/Orton/Punk years and I’m glad that there’s a generation of fans who along with me were genuinely invested in those shows.
