..WWE had the same taste in themes that they do now. Like, any given year that had PPV theme songs.
I have literally no doubt in my mind that this would have been WWF's favorite song in 1998 and they would have played it so much that most of this board would have We Be Clubbin PTSD
(LANGUAGE WARNING) (MIDLIFE ICE CUBE WARNING)

So when we say “same taste in themes”, what does that specify? I’m assuming mid mainstream pop/rap, right?

Mid tier party jams that weren't super big hits and sound kinda hilarious over wrestling (except at Mania then it's Weeknd season) are usually what WWE use so that's my thinking. Like I think WWE would have kept The Baha Men in business for an extra 5 years.

Thinking back to WWF 1996, this really wouldn't fit a PPV of theirs, despite the song itself being virtually universal. (Seriously, the song was everywhere.)
Nowadays tho, heck yeah. I can already hear Michael Cole thanking Quad City DJs for the theme song to the upcoming premium live event.

So this inspired me to look at the Billboard charts when I started college (2016), and while this song in particular stood out, I gotta say, I am eternally grateful that no one ever had Vince listen to Drake because I feel like he would've gotten insanely into him
