I don't care what anybody says, that's still one of the greatest cartoon theme songs of all time.

I don't care what anybody says, that's still one of the greatest cartoon theme songs of all time. I agree. The opening "ya to, ya yo!" is just iconic. I hope as a one-off for the final episode, they do a live action version of the intro. I would love it. Out todasy, innit? Anyone know what time---like, does Netflix release it bang on midnight US time on the 31, or what?

I just watched the first two episodes.
Buggy is fantastic. Just so much fun to watch. It's a really good show. Netflix have done a great job.

What a fun show. Great casting. Great sets. Great action.
As a massive One Piece fan, they’ve done it justice.

Binge watched it today. The Straw Hats all did well but man Inaki Godoy captured Luffy so well.
I have some minor complaints mainly because some changes resulted in some of my favorite scenes not happening but overall I did very much enjoy the creative changes made.
Without posting spoilers I do like how they played up Luffy learning on the fly and being inexperienced. I also like that they played up Arlong for the entire season as the first big bad
But through any and all changes the heart remained and it captured the essence of One Piece.
They also had quite the stinger for season 2

As someone who has only just recently gotten into One Piece, really does feel like the feel of the show has been properly captured. That said, I hate the fact it's a Netflix show because I have doubts it'll actually get picked up for a new season.

I just finished the series today, and overall, I really enjoyed it.
Pros: Visually, everything is fantastic. The casting is spot-on, the wardrobe is good, the settings and backdrops are great, and there's multiple shots taken directly from panels in the manga.
The fights are mostly well done and choreographed, and it's really cool that they had more weapon-based fighters like Zoro and Nami incorporating hand-to-hand fighting in their styles, rather than just purely using their weapons like the anime.
The story is adapted pretty faithfully, and the few changes they did make work pretty well, in my opinion. For example, Buggy taking the citizens of Orange Town hostage and forcing them to watch his circus rather than them just leaving like in the manga is something I really like. Plus, seeing characters like Siam and Bucchie get more characterization, and seeing Koby and Helmeppo's initial time under Garp is very welcome.
Cons: for as faithful as the adaptation is, they cut a lot of stuff, and not all of it was welcome. Characters getting their role minimized like Mohji and Cabaji, characters being cut entirely like Ritchie, Jango and Hatchan, and major character establishing moments like the Buggy Ball scene or Chu Chu's entire subplot are entirely absent.
Also, like, as much as I did enjoy this portrayal... Buggy definitely overstayed his welcome. He had no reason to keep coming back, especially since he was basically just there to make quips and say "shit" a lot after his initial episode.
Overall, it definitely breaks the "bad anime adaptation" curse, but I hope going forward, they get a bigger budget and more episodes, which lets them keep more stuff in.

Just finished the series. Brilliant, absolutely loved it and I am hyped for the Grand Line. My only real negatives are {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}1 - Buggy appeared too much. He was brilliant in his first appearance, but when he appeared after, he was there to basically say a funny one liner and that was it. I think he could have sat out the rest of the series, only appearing at the end with Alvida.
2 - They cut the scene from the Arlong fight where Luffy wears Arlong's teeth. That is one of the funniest scenes in the manga--just a hilarious visual. I was disappointed we didn't see it.
3 - Luffy is a bit too smart and on the ball. He needs to be a bit ... not stupid, but a bit more clueless.
4 - I dont think there was a need to send Arlong to Baratie. I understand cutting Krieg, but I think Baratie would have been fine as it was, without any appearance from Arlong. Reason being, the scene in the manga where Luffy first meets Arlong and knocks him flying is brilliant.
5 - Not a flaw with the show, but this should have been released one episode at a time. It lost something, all coming out at once. One episode a week, or, if they want it out quicker, one episode a day would have worked better. Given people a chance to discuss each episode and that sort of thing. All in all, great show--a solid 8/10

Finished it, loved every piece of it.
I had no idea Arlong was gonna be "Thurgood Marlin" out here tho lmao. The actor was making sure you knew who Arlong was lol.

Arabasta Saga next.
So, I reckon we will see
Episode 1 - Reverse Mountain & entering the Grand Line Episode 2 and 3 - Whisky Peak Episode 4 - Drum Island Episode 5 to 8 - Arabasta Arc
Given Arabasta features three fights with Crocodile, I reckon it has to be at least four episodes. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Arabasta Saga given 10 episodes to fit it in, to give a bit of breathing room and make it feel less rushed.

I'm curious how they are going to handle Dorry and Brogy. I think they will be cut. They're not hugely relevant to the plot, nor is the arc they are in really, and seem like they'll be expensive to CGI and make look good. I am interested to see if they cut Sky Island or not---weird arc, in the anime I hated it. It dragged on and just felt like a long, pointless side quest. But I did enjoy it in the manga. I think it'll be cut, it is basically a long side quest, and to fit it all in would require a good 3 episodes at least---which I think Netflix will see as being too much of a diversion and side rail from the main plot of the Grand Line for the live action series.

This way exceeded my expectations. My one big complain is something I'll add to this post once I remember how to put the spoiler tag from a cellphone.
I'm very curious to know what people who have never read or watched One Piece before think about the show. As a long time fan, even tho I think the show is very good, I'll inevitably get hung up in every change, big or small. However, maybe someone new to the material will feel the story flows naturaly and like the characters despite, or because, of what I percieve as flaws.

I think it’s more likely to be something like this, if it remains just 8 episodes: Episode 1 - Loguetown Episode 2 - Reverse Mountain and Whisky Peak Episode 3 - Little Garden(no way are they cutting the giants they are too important to Usopp’s future) Episodes 4 and 5 - Drum Island and some Vivi flashbacks/setting up the main BW agents Episode 6 - Arriving in Alabasta, Ace/Smoker stuff, the casino, end on cliffhanger with Luffy about to fight Croc Episode 7 - Croc vs Luffy round one, Rebellion vs Army, Strawhats vs Baroque Works Episode 8 - Luffy beats Croc, Alabasta end and aftermath

That's the impression I got from the end of the last episode. But then, they did tease Smoker. So maybe they stop off at Loguetown first. Arabasta is an arc which I think needs more than three episodes, and they need to get Vivi involved and as part of the Straw Hats quite early so that scene where they all put a cross on their arm and hold it up when leaving carries more weight. I wouldn't be surpsied if this won't be a 10 episode season though.

Yeah, without going into spoiler territory, Little Garden (and the introduction of the giants, specifically) is one of those things that causes plot holes later in the series if you cut it, like 4kids turning Laboon into an iceberg.
Also, this is just me, but Little Garden has one of my favourite Zoro comedy scenes, and I want to see it adapted.
EDIT: Also, I know I'm in the minority on this one, but Skypeia is my personal favourite arc, and I really don't want them to cut it.
-they had Nami introduce the story of Montblanc Noland, so they've already planted the seeds for Skypeia.
-It introduces the Dials, which become important to Nami and Usopp's movesets later.
-It's the first arc with Robin as part of the crew, and the events of Water 7 aren't as impactful without that arc establishing her place in the cast.
-Enel is my favourite villain, and he has one of the best moments in the manga (I know it's gonna be almost impossible to accurately replicate, but I wanna see how close they can get).
Plus, there are a couple other things that were introduced in Skypeia that haven't paid off yet in the manga, but might become more important later.
