The staff are not paid enough to give a shit (I think) I used to work in a cinema full time over 20 years ago, and I can confirm the staff aren't paid enough to give a shit. I dont think times have changed.

Seeing movies in a theater sucks and always has. Absolutely nothing appealing about paying $10 for sitting in a dark room with about 4 seats that give a good view, surrounded by strangers who won't shut the f*** up so you can listen to the movie that is already way too loud while you eat your $12 .5 ounce box of stale Milk Duds.
I'm glad to see they're dying, and even more glad to see that they are helping speed up their own demise.

When amc fully implements this, I would love to see other theaters take shots at them and say how their seats aren't extra.

No one in history has ever bought movie tickets and thought "man, I wish this was more like buying concert tickets." Completely asinine move.

Makes sense to me. It’s how literally every other entertainment show with seating operates. Want better tickets pay better pricing, unless you think front row at the 50 yard line should cost the same as an obscured vision nosebleed.
The outrage to this is asinine, and the irony of the article I read quoting a pro wrestling as being outraged over this is just amazing. Even my local Indy charges an extra $5 for front row

Shit like this is going to push more and more people to abandon movie theaters. And honestly I don't care.

How about a discount in slow months like January which is regarded as a dumping ground for films after the post holiday rush Hell I would be happy with a nearby theater that offere matinee prices. Also one that didnt have super thin walls and seats made of concrete. But unless I want to drive over an hour, only theater is the one in town. Older than me I bet. Sucks and it is 12 bucks for a ticket to see anything. Which is why in the last 5 years we have been to see a movie 3 times. Dr Strange-no not the sequel the first 1 New Mutants-Odd experience to see a movie in an almost empty theater, haven't had htat happen since I saw Wired in a theater. Empire Strikes Back-that re-release in 2020. Plus it is cheaper ot rent or sometimes buy the movie in a month or less digitally. But hey at least the theater in town isn't an AMC. So I won't have to pay more to sit middle of the screening room.

I'm glad to see they're dying, and even more glad to see that they are helping speed up their own demise. Use to not be that way. Until the late 90s I never saw people talking during a movie. As a teen I could get dropped off at the theater with 25 bucks and see 3 movies and have snacks at each. But a ticket was 5 bucks. I love going to the theater to see a movie. But it has to be a good theater. Not a crappy one filled with assholes that can't go 2 hours without checking their phones. Cause sure we got a nice 4k tv. But even it doesn't compare to seeing say Bride of Frankenstien on a huge screen in a packed theater. Or being at a drive in watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Out all the theaters to pull this stunt, it would be the one that was just on the verge of bankruptcy. How about a discount in slow months like January which is regarded as a dumping ground for films after the post holiday rush If they absolutely had to raise prices, this would probably be the smartest way to do it: have lower prices through the holidays and the slower winter season, with a reasonable upcharge for the summer blockbuster season. Of course, this is also tricky; I'm sure there's enough folks willing to pay a little extra for an Avengers movie or maybe Avatar to justify the upcharge, but this could kill the box offices of less stable franchises. Who's would've paid an extra 2-3 dollars to watch Black Adam?

I didn't do the math, but on Reddit, someone broke down that AMC would've made the same profit by raising the price of tickets by $0.50. Obviously not all theaters are the same size and not every screening will sell out, so grain of salt.
That said, if they simply raised the prices a bit, they wouldn't have gotten this level of backlash.
So, the dipshit that thought they were a genius caused a PR nightmare. You love to see it.

AMC’s official press release says that Sightline pricing will only apply to shows starting at 4 PM and after. All movies shown on Tuesday will be excluded too, since the company offers tickets for only five dollars that day. I’ve also had the pleasure of having a theater all to myself when I visit my AMC—it’s one of the nice things about having Monday and Tuesday off.

The theater closest to me offers $5 matinee tickets before 5 PM. So, I'll just be giving them more of my money.

I'm glad to see they're dying, and even more glad to see that they are helping speed up their own demise. Not taking a shot at you, but I'm saddened by how much I see this sentiment. Some movies are made to be experienced in the theatre. I couldn't imagine feeling the same sense of wonder and majesty at seeing Jurassic Park, for example, for the first time had it not been on the big screen.

Also, there's another reason for me: Like....people work there. Saying "Movie theaters need to die, I'm glad it's happening" to spite greedy execs is all well and good, but it kinda ignores that there are normal people who depend on the paychecks from theater jobs.
