Leave it at the 12 episodes we have, but at least Amanda Seyfried is reteaming with Chloe director Atom Egoyan for "Seven Veils"

Considering Cleese's recent downward trend into crankdom, I'm predicting that the opening of the first new episode is just gonna be a redo of that bit from The Germans where the Major starts spouting racial slurs, only it'll be twice as long and twice as uncomfortable. At the end of it, Basil will turn to the camera and ask "What, you don't think that's funny anymore? Audiences are too sensitive these days!" It's fairly safe to say that he's going to tell someone he identifies as an attack helicopter. Lest anyone think this is an uncharitable exaggeration, he has literally done this, only it was a "Cambodian policewoman". Whatever comedy chops he had have long since atrophied.

It's such a shame, too because, near as I can tell, Eric Idle at least is as sharp as he's ever been. And I'm sure Palin's still in fine form, but he was always the most subtle of the Pythons anyways.

I think it's less his mental faculties and more a combination of bitterness and comfort, weirdly enough. A string of costly divorces, along with a bunch of low challenge work he can do in his sleep just kind of adds up to him him being smug, with a chip on his shoulder.

I also always got the feeling that Cleese was the one most bound and determined for "Python" to not be the final word on his legacy, so yeah, I can see where that comes form.

Can't wait for the episode about how London has too many non-white people in it. F*** Cleese.

He needs money, women keep marrying him because he's John Cleese then divorcing him because he's John Cleese 24/7, and there's a lot of money being an anti woke grifter, especially if you're someone with any sort of name value. The grift is filled with failed comedians ans screenwriters, people who never were because they never had any sort of talent or the sort of appeal that will break through to the mainstream and spread their awful message, so they'll eagerly glom on to people who were famous and/or funny 40 years ago as they're as close as they're going to get to star power. People will throw money at Cleese for this, it'll get hatewatched then forgotten and he'll end up on lists of celebrities who destroyed their goodwill in stupid ways for years to come.

Eric Idle stops just short of openly making fun of him. I forget if it was Cleese or someone else who went on the usual cancel culture spiel, and when asked about it, Idle asked if it'd been on the BBC or printed in a major newspaper, since yeah, the megaphone for this kind of thing is omnipresent.

Should also say, just because it’s being written doesn’t mean it’ll actually be picked up.
Like, maybe somewhere like BritBox might pick it up because it fits the criteria of content they might look for and possibly the channel GOLD but I can’t see a scenario where a big streamer like Netflix or even BBC iPlayer pick it up.

The money people behind GB News will start a new channel for it, GB Comedy. It'll just be this and endless repeats of Love Thy Neighbour and Mind Your Language all day to stick it to the wokerati.

Maybe they could buy the Hitler sitcom from Comcast, given that they own the Sky/BSB assets.

I see no point in doing this. The jokes they told were risky enough back in the day much less now. There was a metric ton of racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, and making light of mental illness (Fawlty himself was obviously suffering from several mental disorders which were all played for "fun"). Given the star's outspoken nature, this will not end well.

Fawlty Towers was fairly PC/progressive for its time. Basil was a negative representative of Daily Mail reading middle England; self-important, incompetent, and full of repressed xenophobia married to an indolent but strong woman who despises him. A figure who would inspire David Brent and Micheal Scott. The voice of reason and the audience's avatar was the younger, working-class, educated woman Polly (although Connie Booth is only a year younger than Cleese). Manuel and O'Reilly the builder were ethnic stereotypes but nothing different from similar characters found in golden era Simpsons (95% of the ho ha about Apu was the voice actor being white. Willie, Italian chef and Bumblebee man got no such complaints) now I've mentioned Manuel I've just remembered that Andrew Sachs getting bullied on the phone was the first time I'd heard of Russel Brand (if only the last time).
Cleese now is an old man confused by a very different world to the one he once knew, (it might happen to you one day!) its a shame as his Life of Brian experience probably means he has some insights on censorship by the finger waggers that the rest of us don't but he's too far gone and bitter now.
The Fast Show is a British comedy that has aged very well and I wouldn't mind a comeback. The Young Ones and the last two seasons of Blackadder likewise but the cast probably too old to recreate the magic (and The Young Ones without Rik isn't worth trying).

Towers punched up. “Stupid” Manuel would have done a perfectly fine job without Fawlty confusing him. It was the dumb arrogant person in charge creating all of the problems. Now watch all of the “humor” come from those damn millenials and immigrants who “dont want to work” ruining things for the poor white man just trying to run a hotel.

I always think of Warren Mitchell as Alf Garnet when it comes to John Cleese and Basil Fawlty. Warren was always clear that he was playing a character who was a parody of the worst people in society, often brutally to people pretending he was a hero, while the more Cleese speaks, the clearer it becomes is that was who he is.

Cleese confirmed on GB News (a far right extreme views broadcaster) that the series will not be as 'anti-woke' as social media and newspapers like the Guardian fear, and that the new series is set in Torquay in the Caribbean.
Also, it most definitely won't be airing on the BBC, as Cleese fell out with them not that long ago and disagrees with their news service.

Indeed, which is why I'm fearful about this continuation. I hope Cleese does not allow his biases to ruin the new series tarnishing the franchise's reputation in the process.

Speaking of John Cleese tarnishing his legacy, he's making a stage version of Life of Brian next year, without Eric Idle's involvement or the Crucifixion scene. Funny how certain jokes he's okay with cutting so not to offend a certain audience, the same material that audience had been trying to censor for decades.
