Speaking of John Cleese tarnishing his legacy, he's making a stage version of Life of Brian next year, without Eric Idle's involvement or the Crucifixion scene. Funny how certain jokes he's okay with cutting so not to offend a certain audience, the same material that audience had been trying to censor for decades. Idle confirmed it on his Twitter today. Life of Brian without “Always look on the Bright Side of Life” might as well not exist. It’s the most referenced thing about it.

'How X navigates the modern world' is a phrase associated with all the popular and successful revivals. Let's have a think. There'll be an episode where the wifi doesn't work properly, one about having to provide vegetarian or vegan options where he just grabs stuff from a garden, one where he doesn't know how to work his mobile, something about health and safety... Something about him having to scramble to avoid being "cancelled" after he says something terrible, probably about the Germans. It won't be Germans. It will be trans people.

one about having to provide vegetarian or vegan options where he just grabs stuff from a garden. That actually sounds like a funny plot, as long as Basil is shown to be in the wrong for doing it. Heck, I could see the original show doing that.

I mean, he rants about political sensibilities now but Harrowgate, UK was famous for banning the whole movie for decades along with many 18+ ratings across the rest of the country, we here in Ireland banning it for almost a decade so...I don't know, man, maybe there was some "wokeness" in the water in the late 70s or something.

So he's put his foot down to keep transphobia over the protests of the crew, but the crucifixion remains cut despite being FAR more memorable.
Selective free speech, y'all. 'I WON'T BE CENSORED UNLESS IT OFFENDS THE PEOPLE MOST LIKE ME, THEN I CAN BE CENSORED!'
