2016 was the first year of the most recent draft as well as the last year that Cena was full time. I feel like the roster has been essentially the same since then with all the main players (atleast on the male side). New built up Main Eventers like Lashley, Cody, and Drew were all guys that were around during Cena’s heyday. Anyone else agree?

I get what you mean, but I’m not sure what you do to resolve it. No company has ever had a revolving door main event scene by conscious choice. And you can’t just go “You get X amount of years on the main roster to make it big and then you’re out the door”, nobody would sign for that Logan’s Run bullshit.

I guess partially because there hasn’t been any competition until 4 years ago. But if you brought Hogan to the year 1999, he could have fresh programs with the Rock, Austin, HHH, Foley. If you brought Stone Cold or the Rock to 2009 they had fresh made fueds with Cena, Orton, Batista, Edge, Punk, and Jeff Hardy. Cena though seems to have taken on everyone notable in the roster which is why they are having him take on Austin Theory.

Part of that is the consequence of having a designated "guy" that dominates the main event scene for years on end, or in Brock Lesnar's case, someone who wins the championship and f***s off for weeks on end. Can't really create new stars when upper mobility is almost nonexistent past the midcard. It's also the consequence of Vince's booking style for Raw and Smackdown. Not to mention the failure of the NXT > Main Roster Pipeline when NXT was more Triple H's in-house super-indy and less something to prepare developmental and indy talent for WWE proper and the Billionaire Sexpest's whims.

Didn't help that alot of people were stuck in NXT longer than they needed to be because an old fart of a man did not get them and saw nothing in them.

It has been pretty stagnant, even Miz stopped getting ping ponged back and forth between brands every year like he used to.

I mean, Lashley, Cody and Drew were all gone from the company during the 2016 draft

Considering what Vince apparently what to do with him and what he ended up doing with the likes of Keith Lee. I would say it ended up working out for ole Bay Bay though.

This, it's hard to elevate new stars when all the eggs are thrown into one basket. It also didn't help that Vince's vision often conflicted with Triple H's, which led to a lot of NXT talent being rebooted and more often than not, misused when they got to the main roster. There was tons of room for WWE to grow, but unfortunately that growth was stunted thanks to Vince being stubborn in his ways.
