Who would they have pushed in 04? Eddie or Benoit? And 05, Cena or Batista?
Benoit was pushed harder but Eddie was the more talented star. I think Vince even said “Eddie is our guy” when talking about the Radicalz according to Jericho.
05 is different. Cena was obviously the long term prospect so I think pushing Batista first was the move and Cena could of gotten his moment in 06

I would say Benoit and Batista. Even though Eddie was the better overall talent it always seemed like Benoit was booked strong and presented as more of upper card threat. Even in the Radicalz was Benoit always seemed to be presented as the leader and the alpha of the group.
With Batista I think they would've realized they had to strike while the iron was hot and couldn't afford to play the long game as much as they could with Cena.

If we're talking 2004, this was at a time when Vince was still kind of listening to the fans, which is why I think Eddie and Cena get the nudge. However I still think Batista gets pushed too (this would still require the botched Orton push). So I think the only person who gets lost in the mix is Benoit. And I'm okay with that.

Triple H and Brock Lesnar have to be taken into account when we talk about 2004. Without a brand split of 2003 leading into 04, would Trips still be in the title picture or just having blood feuds? Would Lesnar gotten a chance to shine like he did if they decided to keep Trips at the top? For all we know Mania 19 could have had HHH/Brock years before we actually got it. Those factors could also lead to Guerrero and Benoit's pushes being slowed and probably lead to JBL never being in the picture as well.
