Per his daughter’s Facebook page, the last Universal Monster has passed away at 93. Browning was chosen to wear the Creature suit in the underwater scenes due to his proficiency as a swimmer. I believe he appeared in all three Creature films. I was able to get his autograph on a couple things via private signings during the pandemic, including a poster I had gotten from Creature costar Julie Adams’ website before she passed away.
There may be no more Univeral Monsters living, but the Creature will always walk among us.

That was a good run, but still sad. "Creature from the Black Lagoon" was one of those rare horror movies which would air on a bright sunday afternoon when I was a kid. Along with pirate films and adaptations of Jules Verne novels. I have one of those particular "spatial" memories watching "Black Lagoon". I can vividly recall where I stood relative to our tv and my mother sitting on the couch, when the creature abducted Kay. Browning likely had a big impact on what I grew up liking and it's one of the few likings I never lost and never will lose.

He was in all three Creature movies, worked on the Flipper TV series and the James Bond film Thunderball. I met him once pre-pandemic at a convention where he signed my Creature DVD boxset. RIP
