The win over HHH was the only time I could have accepted it as a face...I can't really think of any other memorable face Jericho runs honestly Had Goldberg and Brock not wanted their Mania match for a title, Jericho beating Kevin Owens for the Universal title would have worked I think.

I was so annoyed when Jericho seemed to turn heel the moment he won the top title. I really wanted face world champion Jericho and it's nuts that it took so long after the infamous reversal for him to win it. The entire Face HHH vs Heel Jericho dynamic felt off to me as a fan. I was 9 during the first feud and 10 at Mania and originally it was a newcomer in Jericho trying to climb the mountain on a character like Triple H who up to that point had done anything in his power to get to the top, whether it be aligning himself with the Kliq or marrying Stephanie. Then just because of a freak injury and wanting to beat The Rock, Jericho became a bad guy and Triple H whose actions in the 3 years leading up made his injury more "karma" in kayfabe to me as he did so many awful things that him going down and losing it all was appropriate. I guess it needed to be more than "I got hurt and now I'm back so like me" to get Face HHH over to me. Same for "Hey Stephanie left me, love me please?" First time I ever disliked a face. It felt so forced even to me. Yet oddly enough, today, it can be seen as a man who climbed to the top of not just the ranks of wrestlers but now as the top promoter through all that work in Triple H versus a peer of his who did all he had to do along the way to keep his status from turning on his fans and getting away from being the Lionheart he was to now a middle aged shell of himself holding on to relevance by aligning himself with another billionaire while using his influence to stay at the top. Honestly wish there could be a Jericho/HHH feud today because there is a story to be told there.

It's hard to justify him as a face being world champion in the Attitude Era. As a face, he was almost always behind Austin and Rock. Are you kidding? When Austin was gone, Jericho was EASILY the second biggest babyface next to the Rock, and arguably got some of the biggest pops of all time. You could easily swap Rock out for Jericho at KotR giving him the title until he loses it to Angle. The odd thing about this hypothetical run of Jericho’s coming at the expense of Rock is that it would be erasing the longest single reign Rock ever had with a world title (June 2000 to October 2000), which says so much about how much they passed around the world titles in the Attitude Era. Like, seriously, his next longest reign after that is from the 2013 comeback run when he beat Punk. That’s nuts.

Ehhhhh. Hindsight bias and all but given how wildly underwhelming their feud, and really the entirety of Kevin Owens that year, was, I'd consider it a bullet dodged.
