I’m looking forward to the main event despite being in the minority that would’ve preferred a Sami surprise title win.
But with Heyman’s cuck stuff fresh in mind…we’ve got a while before WrestleMania. I don’t expect anything to, but what could derail the program?
I imagine inserting Brandi as a vocal onscreen presence could backfire massively. Just imagine a WWE version of this:
P.S. JR saying, “This is not good booking here” has to be low key one of my favorite AEW commentary moments.

At this point I honestly think only injury to either one is a realistic option. They are not going to start jobbing Cody out thinking when he wins the title it will be a huge boost to the people who beat him. I dont think Roman loses the titles in a pure shock value loss before Mania. I cant imagine Cody or Roman will give a promo so bad it turns thier very real heat to go away heat. Brandi showing up is very unlikly. Unless The blood line suddenly adds Tamina as a member since she was allied with the Usos when the first showed up. Maybe just maybe they book an angle where Cody has to fight a handicap match vs KO and Sami and beats them both easily then unloads numerous chair shots on them after the match saying that it is a preview of what will happen to Roman. That would ruin things.

At this point, not sure if even Cody explicitly saying "I'm going to avenge Sami Zayn and beat Roman Reigns in his honor" can derail things.

Cody losing in the end, essentially.

Roman winning at WM39 the same boring ways he always wins in this run after a dull match would derail things pretty handily.

Cody losing in the end, essentially. This If Cody takes an L, you have killed all the goodwill that was built up and no one will care whatever the plan is after that

There’s 0 chance of it happening, but it’s a fun thought experiment to imagine WrestleMania morning arrives, Roman goes over the match with HHH and whoever, then when HHH reviews that Cody is winning clean Roman goes, “That doesn’t work for me, brutha.” What happens next?

Cody losing in the end, essentially. Cody losing to random Uso interference would be the biggest wet fart ending to a Wrestlemania Main Event... ever. Even topping WM9.

Roman wins, Brock comes out after and attacks Reigns.

Cody losing in the end, essentially. This is really the only thing at this point. Even if it takes 9 Cross Rhodes and a bionic elbow, Cody's gotta win clean.

Cody having the match won, then either Sean Maluta or Lance Anoa'i (or even Jacob Fatu) come out to replay the same old story beats we've been replaying for 3 years now.

As others have said, the two main things that can derail this whole thing is if either man gets injured before the match or if Cody doesn't win the championship at the end.
Like, never mind the non-kayfabe implications (HHH's first WrestleMania ending like that, the harm in getting other AEW talent to jump to WWE, Vince potentially swooping in to try and fix everything (even if it was his decision, nobody would be able to prove that) etc), what you'd basically be saying to people is "Roman is champion forever and we're really, really going to try and do this Rock match again" even though it feels more and more clear that Rock has zero interest in even doing a video promo for the company anymore, never mind an actual wrestling match.
The fact that hasn't got a 0% of happening is a damning statement of the company's booking for the past 20+ years.

I think what's scaring me is there are a few people out there being like "man, Cody hasn't earned it, he should lose here and win it at SummerSlam" and as much as I like what's going on right now, I just don't think I could handle another five months of Roman's death grip on the belt.

Like others have said, Injuries and Cody losing. Cody isn't losing, Imo. So Injuries is the only thing that can derail this whole thing.

Oh, I can absolutely buy the idea of someone internally being like "WrestleMania's practically sold out anyway, let's try and give some buzz towards Summerslam with a Cody/Roman rematch there" and like...look, if Drew losing in Cardiff and Sami losing in Montreal (two absolute prime opportunities to have Roman lose the title even for a tiny bit of time) was all just going to lead to Cody losing whilst being is the hottest a free agent signing WWE's had since AJ Styles...what are we even doing? What's the point? Because even if the goal is Rock/Roman, Rock's still going to lose to Roman and we're just going to be looking around for whose left.
