We all know that no decade really starts "on time", but what year of each decade would you say that the 80s-2020s really began (people born in the 70s or older can comment as well)
80s-I'd say 1983, thats when a lot of the stuff the 80s is known for either began or began to get popular.
90s-Tough one. 1990-92 is kind of like it's own mini-decade when you really think about it, with 1993-99 being the 90s most people remember. Still, I guess 1992 could be considered the beginning.
2000s-Most people will say 9/11, but I started seeing more cultural shift in 2002 to be perfectly honest.
2010s-Again, kind of split into two, with 2010-2015 being a bit more "normal", and 2016-2019 being very different, mostly due to things and people we cant discuss.
2020s-Decade has just begun, and COVID kind of put a wrench into everything, so this one is still unclear.

I'm basing all of these on when you could just "feel' things were different. like there was no going back. 60's; the Kennedy assassination 70's; Watergate 80's; Reagan taking the presidency 90's either the fall of the Soviet Union or Clinton taking the presidency (it's a toss up) 2000's; yeah, 9-11 2010's; crazy choice i know (not truly the 2010's), but the The 2007–2008 financial crisis 2020's; yeah COVID/ the pandemic

90's definitely don't feel like the 90's until 93, that's dead on accurate. 2000s......yeah, 9/11, sadly set the tone.

The thing about 90-92 is that it doesnt really seem much like a continuation of the 80s either to be honest . It's like its own thing with no real connection to the previous decade or the "real" 90s (aside from things from that era that went on to stay popular).
