I always feel bad for the victims. Same, but I thought the big kill in Terrifier 2 that had everybody talking had me genuinely feeling bad. So cruel and over the top.

It's a real deep cut, but there's an obscure 2014 horror movie called "The Den." It's about a girl who is conversing with strangers online via Chatroulette for a graduate project but ends up interacting with a sort of online cabal of hackers. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I just remember feeling so awful because you've really gotten to know this one girl (the movie is essentially filmed from her perspective on her laptop), and the final 40 or so minutes is her enduring so much mental and physical torment at the hands of these online captors, only for her to ultimately die by just being shot in the head after the hackers briefly torture her.

I felt really bad for Vicky in Halloween (2018). Everything we saw was that she was a good babysitter to Julian, and cared about him. When Michael attacked she tried to hit him with a chair, and when Julian came back to help her, she told him to run. Her last act as being murdered by Michael was to tell Julian to run.

Part of what makes good slashers like Friday the 13th part 4 or The Burning into actual effective horror movies is that the cast is likeable, and you're actually scared for them and hope they survive.

Losse definition of "scary", but multiple episodes of Black Mirror end with someone experiencing a fate worse than death.

For every character in a movie like this who can be seen to be punished for promiscuity, drug use, etc., there are just as many who were a matter of wrong place, wrong time.

All the victims in Jaws because each one drives the plot forward. None are gratuitous.

Gail Weathers cameraman in the first Scream. Dude had to put up with her shit the entire movie and then gets knifed when he steps out of the news van.

Came in to say this. There’s “the bad guy(s) win in the end” and then there’s Eden Lake. It’s another level of cruel and sad.

I always feel bad for the victims. For me, not always... there's a bunch of people who make bad choices and deserve their comeuppance in movies like the "Friday the 13th" movies. In "V/H/S", I kinda felt bad for the winged lady in the tape with the hidden camera in the glasses. In "John Dies At The End", there was that kid Fred, who was just tagging along, got infected, then got shot right as he was trying to help. There was also the reporter played by Paul Giamatti... all he did was talk to a guy...

The end of The Mist I guess. Biggest gut punch in a movie ever?
