Better late than never, here's my live report from Monday Night Raw at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence.
- The show opened with two Main Event matches:
Cedric Alexander (with Shelton Benjamin and MVP at his side) defeated Dante Chen. The crowd was firmly behind Cedric Alexander, as most of the audience did not know Chen, although his babyface offense did garner some support toward the end of the match. In the second Main Event match,
Akira Tozawa beat Trick Williams. Nothing remarkable to report. Sorry, I'm not Dave Meltzer here.
- Edge started the show and got one of the better crowd reactions of the night. As the promo between Edge and Finn Balor went on, the crowd began getting excited at the prospect of a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania, and erupted when Edge threw down the challenge.
- A small "F*** you, Dominik" chant broke out over the course of the opening match, but I'd be surprised if it was even audible on TV. As I will get into in a minute, Dominik Mysterio might be the most despised heel in WWE at the moment.
- Cody Rhodes' entrance was the highlight of the night, the crowd went WILD for it, with some fans singing his theme. His match with LA Knight was probably the match of the night.
- As soon as the Titantron showed that Elias versus Bronson Reed was coming up next, there was a mass exodus to the restrooms, concession stands, and merchandise tables. It was as crowded in those areas as it had been at any time in the show. There was zero appetite for that match.
- I think most of the audience expected Monday would be the night the Rey versus Dominik match would be made official after they saw the graphic indicating Rey Mysterio would be on Raw. Dominik throwing down the challenge got a huge reaction, and Rey declining it and walking away actually drew some boos.
- It was clear that the crowd wanted Montez Ford versus Austin Theory, and there was a bit of an audible disappointment when Angelo Dawkins stepped up for the challenge. That said, he fully won the crowd over and had their complete backing as the match wore on.
- Seth Rollins got the second-biggest babyface crowd response of the night, only behind Cody Rhodes. His match was a nothing match, but the crowd was still very much into it because they're completely into Seth Rollins.
- I think the crowd expected Bianca Belair versus Chelsea Green to last a minute or two at most, so when it went a full eight minutes, it sort of took the crowd out of it. Even Asuka arriving on scene couldn't win them back.
- The crowd was pining for tables from the moment the bell rang in the main event, but the chair spot was more than enough to sate their bloodlust.
- After the show went off the air, Kevin Owens and The Bloodline fought some more, with KO putting Solo Sikoa through a table in the ring, sending the crowd home happy.
- No post-show dark match, as the house lights came on and the ring announcer thanked the crowd for coming after Owens and The Bloodline retreated to the back following the table spot.
