I still think the four pillars marketing gimmick is lame tbh. Especially Sammy Guevara being included

Didn’t Spears have a big emotional return and then disappear again? What happened with him? He came back to announce his wife was pregnant and I believe he is/was taking time off for that. I know he also runs a wrestling school with Tyler Breeze, not sure if he's been active with that, or if he has taken time off from that, too.

Another very good promo this week. One thing I really liked is that if you go back and listen to MJF’s promo leading up to Double or Nothing 2020, in the red chair, he was EXTREMELY complimentary of Jack and didn’t take too many shots. It’s stood out even more since then, given how Max’s promos usually are. I appreciated the kayfabe explanation for why that is. I thought it was a really nice touch from both guys.

I'm looking forward to the eventual four-way but hoping they move on from the Shooty McShoot stuff soon. Glad to see they did steer away from Shooty McShoot stuff. Both MJF and Jungle Boy's promos worked in kayfabe

I still think the four pillars marketing gimmick is lame tbh. Especially Sammy Guevara being included It's very forced as a concept. There's no real reason these guys are the pillars, other than they just are. The Four Horsewomen were clearly the best four wrestlers and were presented as being a level above the rest of the division. The pillars of AEW are/were very obviously Kenny, Nick, Matt and Cody. But you could also throw in OC, Britt Baker, Hangman in well ahead of Sammy. Not that any of the above makes much of a difference to the story. It's just lore that doesn't really feel earned.

Four pillars here just means the four young wrestlers who had the most upside when the company started. Said that way, it makes sense. Sammy had a lot of promise before he started his BS the last year or two, Darby's star raised immediately with the Cody match, Jungle Boy was the stand out in Jurassic Express and it was always a matter of when he'd break out on his own, and MJF's upside spoke for itself. Does it stand up in 2023? For the most part I think so, though I'd have replaced Sammy but other than that I think it works.

Like, it would make more sense if it was someone like Starks (over Sammy), but Starks wasn't there from Day One (Assuming you had to be there on Day One to be a pillar, in this context), so it can't be him.

Exactly. But for these purposes I'm fine with it. Not like Sammy is going to win the title.

Don't forget, the four pillars concept started floating around all the way back in 2021. At that point, the best four young guys AEW had were undoubtedly MJF, Jungle Boy, Sammy, and Darby. IIRC, it was the fans and internet who started the four pillars thing and AEW ran with it.
If it was a fresh concept now, there'd be a lot more debate over who would be included, I think.

If Starks wasn’t signed to NWA when AEW first started then I for sure would have put him as a pillar head and shoulders above Sammy.
But I think the only other young signee was Kip Sabian and that dude is even a lesser version of Sammy.

The four pillars being debatable is a good thing, because it's reason for other wrestlers to antagonize them, the fans and/or the system.

I don't think there is anything wrong with calling theses guys the ORIGINAL Four Pillars of AEW
Because they pretty much are
