Its telling just how upside down this year is when so many traditionally safe movies are doing at best eh or outright flopping, while the two biggest films are the year are likely going to be a video game adaptation and an animated sequel to what was the lowest grossing Spider-Man release. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is about the only major film that did about as well as expected. Everything else has been crap shoot of unpredictability either way in both directions. All that being said, I would not be even remotely surprised if Barbie ends up being huge when it comes out this month. That one's done a really good job of building genuine hype. Barbie is gonna be seen a lot, unironically, like people are genuinely excited to see that film, and Oppenheimer.

Western animation just seems to have given up. Puss in Boots was great--no question. But before that, it was just a row of mediocrity or outright shit. It’s been like that for almost 20 years since cgi got cheap and fast to make. Just look at 2006 there was at least 14 animated movies released in theaters that year. When Cars and Happy Feet (and Monster House which I still I think is incredible) are the films that were nominated for Oscar. Most everything else was much worse. Doogal, The Wild, Everyone’s Hero, The Ant Bully, Arthur and the Invisibles… it was dollar bin crap show. Over the Hedge was pretty good though. If anything it’s better than it’s been in years, less are being released in theaters, and more diverse films are being released on streaming, companies figuring out quality over quantity and average companies like Blue Sky went under due to the Disney / Fox merger.

It also is extremely telling about how much Hollywood needs to get its shit together with properly budgeting movies that Fast X and Little Mermaid are respectively the third and fifth highest grossing movies of the year and the former lost a ton of money while the latter's had to limp to break even. Disney alone has spent over a billion with their last four movies the past three months, and only GOTG thus far has turned a profit, they really need to stop throwing money around. And they're likely about to have another bomb on their hands with Haunted Mansion.

That's what I'm gonna do.

Woof, didn't even crack the top 5 it's opening weekend. Barely made 12 million worldwide Shall we start the DreamWorks is dead and buried alarm. Not really, unlike Pixar this isn't the latest flop in a series of flops as DW's last two movies (Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and The Bad Guys were both pretty successful) Now if Trolls 3 bombs later this year then they can panic. They'll still have Kung Fu Panda 4 in the pipeline. And the live action How to Train Your Dragon, but that's live action and I don't know how well that's gonna work out.

So it flopped, I hope they don't think it flopped is because it was 90 minutes, it is so re freshen to have 90 minutes movie. BTW for those that saw that movie like I did. {Spoiler} What happened to the villain is really messed up. I don't care if she is older than she looks, doesn't make it any better. Better off dead.

If the Live Action HTTYD is a hit, you just KNOW we'll get a (horrifying looking) Live-Action Shrek.

So this movie is role reversal The Little Mermaid {Spoiler}Except the villain did not have any interest in the love interest character despite taking credit for saving him. And good because she much older than him.
