30 years ago today and I was there! So thought I'd post about it for the anniversary. WCW at The Point Depot, Dublin, 17 March 1993, my first wrestling show as a 6 year old. My Mam surprised me with the tickets along with a WWF Texas Tornado figure, with neither of us having any idea of course that he had just died the month before
Looking back at the card, which I have done a few times now over the years, it was quite a cool:
Johnny B. Badd defeated Scotty Flamingo Van Hammer defeated Maxx Payne Barry Windham fought Dustin Rhodes to a No Contest Davey Boy Smith defeated Vinnie Vegas Paul Orndorff (c) defeated Michael P.S. Hayes to retain the WCW World Television Championship Rick Rude defeated Cactus Jack Big Van Vader defeated Sting (c) to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Apart from maybe second match pretty much all fire, getting to see to see the likes of Foley, Raven, Nash, and Dustin Rhodes pre-Attitude; golden era guys like Bulldog, Rude, Orndorff and Hayes; Johnny B. Badd, Cactus Jack, Sting and Vader were already super-over with us; and then getting to see a World title change in the main event! Which I had no memory of it being from the time (they had swapped the belt already on the tour a week earlier in London and this was the last show of it). The only things I really remember vividly are Johnny B. Badd and his entrance, Cactus, and Sting and Vader being in the main. Oh and also, being in the very back row of the floor seats and the man and son next to us had binoculars with them which they let us borrow at one point. Classic!

If I am not mistaken, this is the only World Title change to occur in Ireland .

I remember round that time wcw was on ITV(UTV up north) on Saturday afternoons for an hour. I'm not sure where else you would have gotten WCW shows or what satellite channel showed the PPVs or flagship show's. Out of curiosity, how did the British Bulldog go down with the Irish crowd?

That's cool you got to see a World Title change.
Rude and Cactus Jack sounds like an interesting match as they never really interacted much.
Surprised they had Van Hammer go over Maxx Payne as Hammer was on his way out and Payne was still pretty new at that point. Come to think of it I'm surprised they didn't have them feud as it would be a natural program with them both having rock musician gimmicks.

I remember when Maxx Payne came in he had a feature/interview in WCW magazine where he talked about going after Hammer and it also included the most edgelord faux-phiosophical quotes of all time. The only one that I remember was he said something about "Living In Sanity or is it Living Insanity" I have no idea why I remember that, probably because even as a kid I knew that was some major bullshit. lol

Seems like he was trying to be this real cool deep edgy philoshphical guy but just usually ended up coming off as being lame. Also I guess maybe they didn't want to do another Hammer feud with another rock musician guy who can legitimately play after the terrible JT Southern feud the year before. I found it funny how bad they made Hammer look during that feud where they have his rival who is the heel in the feud who can legit play a guitar while calling out Hammer who is the face for being a fraud because he never plays his and then Hammer proves him right by still never playing it. Although I guess Souther being a horrible wrestler who made Hammer look like Ricky Steamboat in comparison was also another reason why that feud never took off. I remember he was so bad that after about a month they just made him the world's biggest manager for Scottt Flamingo before they just released him after a few months.

How lucky. That's a loaded card for sure, and one of the best eras of WCW ever. Rude was putting in some of the best in-ring work of his career, Vader was as good as he'd ever be, Windham/Rhodes' workrate was phenomenal. And a title change!
And a year later, Cactus Jack would return from Europe missing an ear.

It's wild that Sting lost titles on international tours. Both WCW World Belts and the US Title.

Yeah it was UTV we had as well, not that I knew that's what it was on at the time, for years I was wondering what channel I had been watching it on back then but later realised. I didn't see any WCW PPVs or anything else from them on TV other than that Saturday afternoon hour. But Thunder in Paradise staring Hogan on after? That was a time after I had access to WWF in 1992 briefly (and rental VHS of a good range of PPVs at one point), but we never had Sky Sports and I didn't end up finding WWF on TV again until in 1996 on Sky One, by which point I hadn't seen WCW in a while. As for Bulldog, I can't remember exactly as without seeing the card I wouldn't have remembered he was there (again, I was 6), but I'm pretty sure he would have received a positive response as an over "WWF Superstar", rather than seeing him as a symbol of British Imperialism or something! (especially if he was being face at this point?)
