This is certainly a choice for a movie to get a 20th anniversary thread. Ahhh, that said I can't say I hate this film. Is it good, no not really, its a freaking mess, but Stephen King adaptations for me are incredibly weird. There a so many BAD ones, but for some reason I can't bring myself to say I hate many of them, The Mangler, Thinner, Sleepwalkers, Graveyard SHift, Sliver Bullet, I like all those crappy little films.

It was okay. But it flames out pretty quickly.
The first act of the movie is actually pretty well done. It almost sets itself up as a horror movie like The Thing. There is some very grotesque scenes early on that give a lot of similar movies a run for their money.
But then, they add an uninteresting military subplot, Damian Lewis in a goofy double performance, a fifth friend who is an alien, Thomas Jane using a gun as a phone, and flashbacks of some of the worst child acting ever. Once they split up the friends and start killing them off, it loses it's footing and never recovers.

Its proof that regardless of how shitty the source material is. Just having the name Steven King attracted to it is enough to get it made into a movie.

Honestly considering how bad the book is (it's by far one of King's weakest), the movie adaption could have been a lot worse.
