So recently I backed up some pictures from Google Photos onto a Zip folder. I also put them on my portable hard drive. I'm trying to clean out Google Photos because I am rounding low on space and I am iffy about paying a service for extra space.
When I saw that it said "extract," I wondered what that meant. Can anybody tell me?

It means the pictures will be copied and moved to an 'open' folder.

Zipping files is a way to make the data more easily transferable. It's difficult to, for example, email a large amount of pictures, especially if they are high quality pictures. If you zip them in a compressed folder, however, the data is much more easily transferred. You then need to unzip the files to revert them to a format that you can make use of.
