Becky Vs IYO appreciation society

I do not get to create shrine threads like others have but f*** it I am gonna get my gawd damn chance for this one.



It has taken months between all the crappy inconsistent booking in her matches where she is doing nothing but bumping , to just overall Dmg Cntrls booking that IMO still the best womens wrestler in the world FINALLY gets to show out and remind people how great IYO is and can be.

And I love how this was pretty much instant chemistry because both women are basically cut from the same cloth as they are givers willing to always make sure their opponent comes out better and while Becky did get alot of offence this was not a Bianca situation because in return Becky bumped her ass off and let IYO get in alot of her bigger moves....that springboard drop kick to her while she was on the top rope is the first time on the main roster that IYO has done that.

And she half/quarter did IYO's rainbow which surprised the hell outta me because it is something out of her arsenal fans of hers have been begging her to do.

And for those wondering what the hell IYO's rainbow is.



And ontop of it all she gets a strong positive reaction for her performance in a match against Becky no less which you would think going by how they have been booked that Becky would firmly have the crowd on her beginning to end but naw they came around onto IYO and the match gets a this is awesome chant.

I hope down the line they get the chance to wrestle each other in a bigger match with bigger stakes 1 on 1 because there is magic in this here potential rivalry.

Like I said in a couple of other threads, Becky is a lot more giving (even if her booking is still very questionable at times) in the actual matches, opposed to someone like Bianca who is a lot more selfish (whether its intentional or not, no one gets over from feuding with Bianca). You can pretty much divide the big main roster women into two distinct categories. Selfless and giving in matches, and selfish and not so giving.

Becky, Bayley, Asuka, and sometimes Rhea are very much in the selfless department, sometimes to their own detriment. On the flipside, you have Bianca, Ronda, and Charlotte who are in the selfish department and pretty much refuse to sell for anyone ever, or are incredibly awful at it to the point of where it harms the people they are feuding with.

Ronda's an interesting case. When she's with the right opponent, she makes them look great, and sometimes you get matches like her recent tag with Shayna against Shotzi/Nattie where she went out of her way to bump her ass off for Shotzi, seemingly as a make-good for Survivor Series. There's definitely been other times when she's done the opposite, though. Charlotte tends to be quite selective, especially in recent years (she used to be the best seller of the Banks Statement because of her flexibility)--she'll rag-doll for Bianca or Rhea but you get other matches where her selling is minimal. Bianca sometimes bumps well (though they tend to be the same bump a lot of the time) but still struggles with selling.

An ESPN article that came out today also nicely describes Rhea's selling even for small opponents:

What makes Ripley so unique is that she can beat up a male former world champion while also selling DDTs and hurricanrana from someone the size of Zelina Vega on a random episode of Smackdown! And she does this without losing any of her credibility. Ripley is the rare giant who can sell moves in a way that elevates her opponent of any size without losing any of her intimidation.

But to return to the original topic, Becky/Iyo was good stuff and let Iyo show out in a way she hasn't really done so far on the main roster.

It was a good match.

And Becky might have super long title runs and OP booking, but if they tell her "we want you to make Charlote/Sasha/Bianca/Damage Control/etc look good" then she is going to do her best to make them more over with the crowds than they were before.

Yea , the unfortunate downside to being one of the selfless ones is you usually end up being boxed into the "good hand" role and making sure others look better than yourself.

But for someone like IYO that is never to be an issue because her ability in ring is so elite that it ends up being the other woman that cannot carry forth what she did with IYO...Shotzi is one to come to mind she has her best match with IYO but hasn't lived up to that potential since and ends up serving so only elevate IYO's stock if that makes sense.

Iyo’s best singles match on the MR imo. And surprise surprise, when you let her cut loose, she can get the crowds behind her. Hopefully they were watching that backstage and do better with her post-Mania.

All you have to do is throw IYO out there for 10min and her let her go wild.

She is one woman IMO you can put out weekly and it would never be burn out IMO because no match of hers is ever the same , she does not have a set routine like some others do because her offence is so varied.

She had her best main roster match lastnight and did not even do...her outside dive , her double back handspring into drop kick , running knees into the corner etc and that goes without even talking about other things she break out like her avalanche spanish fly as well.

This is one of my most wanted PPV matches for the next year or so along with Becky/Rhea, Asuka/Iyo and Bianca/Rhea.

Loved the match but I'd always rather see a great match on PPV where it can go 20 minutes uninterrupted by commercials.

it really sucks that WWE's nostalgia booking has elevated wrestlers like Trish and Lita into the female version of "big attitude era star returns". By all means show up and get a goofy lil pop, but the idea we have to pretend these two were anywhere near as good as today's stars or remotely important to the story of women's wrestling is lame.

They in-ring weren’t always great (especially Lita), but they absolutely were important to the story of women’s wrestling and were influential in getting a lot of today’s stars interested in wrestling in the first place. It’s actually nice to see them get the nostalgia spots that used to only go to the men of that era.

Anyway, back to the thread. I thoroughly enjoyed the match as I mentioned on the live chat last night and I'd have no problem with Iyo winning MitB this year, hell with it being a Ladder match she should get some positive reactions with the stuff she does in the ring. A programme between her and Becky after Damage CTRL break up sounds like fun to me.

Indeed. Hell, to name just one example, Charlotte was in the crowd for their pioneering 2004 Raw main event.

Fight Fans has Bill Bhatti and Brad Shepard ghost writing for them so I kinda doubt this. And even if this is true, Raquel would probably end up failing the cash in because she's just so remarkably bland. They've given her a ton of chances to get over and she never really has gotten over. She would be a good filler feud for Rhea, but otherwise that's her ceiling, and I can't see her breaking through it until she finds a personality and actually improves her strength game, because despite being a big woman, she struggles quite a bit on some of the more important power spots in those types of matches.

Shayna and Ronda are likely going to be the tag champs (or fighting for the tag titles) heading into MITB so I doubt that's happening either. I can potentially see Dakota Kai, but she's by far the weakest member of Damage CTRL right now, win/loss wise. I think the only possible reason they could push her is because she speaks fluent English, but otherwise...yeah.

In that same vein though, I wouldn't be shocked if Iyo isn't in actual consideration for a push since it seems like the NXT audience pretty much had to force Triple H to push her, because Rhea completely cratered after she lost to Charlotte (who wasn't bringing in the ratings either like he had hoped). Iyo was only pushed because he had no one else really to push, and she got herself over, which is probably why she got a long run with the title. I don't think its a coincidence that she dropped the title pretty much the moment they got fans back in attendance. Ironically she dropped it to Raquel who ended up having one of the worst NXT Women's Title runs in that belt's lineage.

I get people are down on her, but Raquel's shown clear potential in things like her last match with Ronda, had a good showing in the Rumble, and they've already been doing house-show matches with her and Rhea so I could definitely see her being one of Rhea's title feuds. She's also one of the few women to have not already lost to Bianca and/or Charlotte, so she has room for other big feuds. She's also good with media, can do bilingual promos, and represents herself well in interviews. And on 2020 NXT, Rhea actually had a very strong run of matches after losing the title to Charlotte, including the fun handicap one with Stone/Aliyah, the 'Battle of the Badasses' with Mercedes Martinez, her title match with Io, and her two matches with Raquel.
