I'm digging the idea here, could be a fun premise. Keep hoping for a Legacy series with Captain Seven of Nine though. Well, with Terry Matalas now tied up with Marvel, it's safe to say that's off the table until at least 2027.

Folks, you thought Holly Hunter was a cool casting for Starfleet Academy, well…

Great! That's what I hoped for and I'm glad that's the case. As much as the debate around Discovery travelling to that period is still up in the air, if you're going to do a new Star Trek show involving new recruits, you might as well put it somewhere that's still trying to reestablish itself after *waves arms around to hide Discovery spoilers* and have it be, for a lack of a better word, a discovery for those involved. I dig it! I'm not in love with the idea of the show, although I'm also someone who never fully loved Disco and don't even care enough to watch the last season, but I'm glad they're trying something beyond the currently established TOS-Picard Era. Don't get me wrong, I still want that Legacy spinoff and I still want stories coming from the main era but that doesn't have to be the end all be all. Also, Paul Giamatti in Trek?!? GIMMME!!!

I'm not a huge fan of the 32nd century and its design aesthetic (the hovering warp nacelles really bug me), but at least it's where, or should I say "when," no one has gone before. Paul Giamatti is also an inspired choice for a villain.

So bad news, nothing yet visually because the show hasn’t started filming.
Good news, though, we do know that Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman and Tig Notaro (!!!) will be back as their respective characters but more importantly, The Doctor from Voyager is coming back to live action, baby!
THE PICARDONAISSANCE CONTINUES!
EDIT: Also, how did I miss Gina Yashire of all people being in this?! Her career since moving to America has been staggeringly weird.
EDIT 2: Oh, and there were somehow two Starfleet Academy threads so I merged them.

THE PICARDONAISSANCE CONTINUES! More Oded Fehr is always good news. Mary Wiseman was pretty much a lock given Discovery's epilogue, and Tig Notaro is a superb addition – she was massively underused in Discovery (a common problem with the supporting cast), so hopefully she has a bigger role to play. Picardo returning is fantastic. It makes sense – his character is functionally immortal, so could easily be around 700 years after we last see him. Or they could use the duplicate Doctor from the "Living Witness" episode, since that episode takes place about 90 years before Discovery shows up in that time period.
