The feud with Nakamura Cody had in December was really good, you had Shinsuke as a warning of what Bitchhalla does to a mofo, and a warning that what happened to him could happen to Cody, Jey, Sami or any other face. It was a fine short program. It didn't need to be repeated.

Cody's a made guy, but until he has his big moment i don't think his mark is genuinely etched into anything. I've long held that WWE is going to run into a real problem when their nostalgia acts dry up because they've done such a poor job at building up who they have now that they won't have a crutch. Too many people are going to be nostalgia acts in the way Carlito is a nostalgia act, and Carlito is not a dude who can "save" a Wrestlemania. Cody needs that spot and he needs that win, and then he needs a good deal after that, and if they give him that, maybe he can be The Rock too.

I think he needs to win the title to ascend, yeah, particularly if we're talking about WWE. In wrestling history in general, yeah, he's probably going to be remembered as a big deal by the time he is done, but they really need to give him his flowers if they want him to be an all-time for WWE.

Here's my 2 issues with the whole thing:

1. I got invested in Cody finishing his story. He returned to the WWE, fought through injury to return and win the Royal Rumble only to be screwed out of the title. He had to go through Brock and earned his respect and won the rumble back to back. I want to see him beat Roman and finally win the title. If he doesn't face Roman and win what does the last year and a half really mean?

2. Roman v Rock is dream match sure. Just like Taker vs Goldberg was a dream match....but only when they were in their prime. Rock is not in his prime. He's a 50 something year old movie star with roid muscles who hasn't wrestled a full match in over 10 years and was injured in his last match. Roman vs 2000s Rock is the dream match. This isn't it.

I feel like we went through something like this every few weeks/months where WWE said what you heard is not real. That drove a ton of people away who ended up coming back cause they got better about doing that and now, they do the grand daddy of all lies. Even the Smackdown Seagull pops are angry right now.
