I agree with all this except the bolded part. Cody's had a lot of setbacks and he's always overcome them. Him losing to Reigns after Reigns cheated the same way he cheats in every single match, him getting that Lesnar feud, him dealing with other popular stars people wanted to beat Reigns too like Jey, Sami and Drew, hell even him getting injured as a setback but he overcame it.

The fact he had all these setbacks and he gets ANOTHER ONE and it's done in the form of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? And now the company's like "nah, we're gonna give you the DANIEL BRYAN SETBACK" now? Oh yeah? Yep, THAT'S THE EXCUSE WE'LL USE. We know it's an excuse. 

It's weird, that Daniel Bryan thing is a gift and a curse. It's a gift because it worked for Bryan but it's a curse because that's seemingly the #1 thing they use when they wanna push a babyface these days.

It's more the one thing they use when they realize everyone hates them, their booking, and their company, and then wanna act like it was the plan all along to try and "Make a new big babyface" when with Cody he was already made and with Bryan IT WAS NEVER THE PLAN AND EVERYONE KNOWS THAT lmfao

I'm definitely inclined to think the intention of the segment was they're trying to build a narrative reason why Cody would choose to fight Seth instead, and vocalizing the alternative through Drew (by the way, bang-up job acknowledging every Roman match is exactly the f***ing same), but that's stupid and really obviously won't work.

Yeah my point isn't that in kayfabe Drew wasn't laying it on thick to be a heel, he was, that was the point in character

The problem is EVERYONE AGREES WITH HIM and the crowd come off as heels when they then boo Seth and think Drew is completely in the right for everything he said because it's what they've been advocating for for the last 72 hours, being used as some heels springboard as Seth denounces him and Cody looks completely f***ing sad and despondent

If they were truly dead-set on Rock vs. Reigns one-on-one, there absolutely would have been an edict that said “don’t acknowledge the crowd chants.” That’s why the “Yes!” chant was so quickly given to Big Show in 2013 — it gave WWE plausible deniability to explain that the fans weren’t rabidly pro-Daniel Bryan, but rather pro-Big Show, or at the very least, anti-Authority.

They have stated that the belt that Rollins holds is a consolation prize created as Roman beat everyone else pretty clearly, so that's one reason. The other is that Rollins isn't related to Dwayne, and nobody thought that Rollins vs The Rock is a dream match.

Another reason is that The Rock will get gassed within seconds of the bell ringing and won't be able to keep up with Seth, but that also holds mostly true for The Rock working with his cousin too.

See, I didn't see it from the perspective that some have, that Drew McIntyre was supposed to be "the voice of the fans" in that segment. It's not like Drew was doing that from a pro-Rock point of view. He was clearly trying to get inside Cody Rhodes' head and make him choose Roman Reigns to suit his own self-serving interests - namely to get a World Heavyweight Championship match with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.

Sure, Drew is a professional hatin'-ass hater, but he's also smart enough to understand that if Cody chooses Rollins, his path toward a WrestleMania title match is closed. But if Rhodes chooses Roman Reigns, the door swings wide open for him to face Rollins.
