I'd take basically anything that gets the belt off of Roman while not giving it to Rock, but that still really, really sucks for Cody and for the people who bought tickets to Mania hoping to see him win the belt.

That doesn't solve the problem of Roman having a title reign that is creatively spent. Just look at the Royal Rumble title match where the crowd was dead for most of it and there were loads of people heading for merch stands, toilets, the concessions and the touch tank.

Roman needs to lose both titles at 'mania.

Detroit was just as bad for Summerslam. We all groaned when this match went on past 12AM.

The crowd was dead, tired and just wanted to go home. And this was way back in August.

You are right, this title reign is cooked. It's the stupid universal title reign record that is blinding everyone in WWE.

None of us care anymore even after it hit day 366, 500, 750, 1000 or 1,200+.

I agree with all this except the bolded part. Cody's had a lot of setbacks and he's always overcome them. Him losing to Reigns after Reigns cheated the same way he cheats in every single match, him getting that Lesnar feud, him dealing with other popular stars people wanted to beat Reigns too like Jey, Sami and Drew, hell even him getting injured as a setback but he overcame it.

The fact he had all these setbacks and he gets ANOTHER ONE and it's done in the form of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? And now the company's like "nah, we're gonna give you the DANIEL BRYAN SETBACK" now? Oh yeah? Yep, THAT'S THE EXCUSE WE'LL USE. We know it's an excuse. 

It's weird, that Daniel Bryan thing is a gift and a curse. It's a gift because it worked for Bryan but it's a curse because that's seemingly the #1 thing they use when they wanna push a babyface these days.

My guess is leaning into it is less them actually intending to do anything to salvage it and more Triple H trying a desperate hail Mary to get something out of the shitty situation they've put him in to effectively create the groundwork for, "We'll do it at SummerSlam, okay? Please bare with us."

Hey, if Rock insisted on working Mania, and they wanted Cody to win the title at Mania, and what they came up with was creating a Daniel Bryan-like movement for Cody so they can make the match a triple threat in a somewhat storyline-logical way, I won’t be thrilled about it not being one on one, but I’ll be happy Cody would still hopefully end up the champ coming out of it.
