I think that it was right as the sale was becoming official so Vince was minding his own business and not meddling in the booking. That means it was HHH. He has never forgiven Cody for destroying that throne đ

Hang on hang on hang on are you telling me that they actually booked Cody to win the Rumble AGAIN and are plugging their new game under the tagline 'finish your own story' and then he's not even having the match?

I 100% think this is a fakeout to work fans, especially internet fans, and that Cody's still going to Mania vs Roman with Rock as special referee. I won't believe they're actually doing this until Rock walks out to wrestle Roman at Mania and the bell rings, this reeks of HHH wanting to mess with the IWC and redo the Daniel Bryan Yes Movement stuff.

It's amazing that Cody has inadvertently become all 3 of the biggest stars of the last 20 years outside of Roman at the same time.
John Cena, as the straght laced face of America that the company usually get behind.
Daniel Bryan, as the insanely over wrestler that fans want at Mania.
CM Punk, as the guy being screwed over on the Mania main event in favour of The Rock.

It's funny when you think about it. Rock has been brought back to deflect away from the Vince news and to attempt to get some good press. Instead, they get mostly negative reactions from most of the fans. What would have given good press and been a feel good story, was the clean cut guy who does so many positive things for the company and fans finally winning the big one and making everyone happy. Idiots. The live crowd in Birmingham seemed to love it but we'll see if that holds going forward. I think in the crowd, in the moment, itâs great to see live. But itâs a lot different when youâre in front of a crowd whoâs had a chance to sit and digest whatâs happening after a few days, read why this is happening, and realize what this means. If Cody wins it in Perth..odd choice but at least it makes B PLEs matter I suppose. But if he loses? And he faces Seth in a match people were screaming âno! no! no!â for on monday? And Rock vs Roman is for the title that matters? Oooh, I think Rock is gonna overestimate how much the weekly casual WWE fan loves Cody Rhodes and are not gonna be cool with this.

All for this falling Hollywood star. Who never got over his big superhero project flopping harder than he did when Punk gave him the GTS in 2012

"We want Cody" should be chanted every week during Rock, Reigns, & Bloodline promos all the way up to Wrestlemania. Maybe then, there would be a slight chance he gets added to the match like Daniel Byran did at 30. It is very doubtful, but at least it lets them know they screwed up and it is not just internet marks that are mad about it.

Rock is going to get booed. Definitely at WM where it will be a lot of smarks in the crowd. Whether he is in the buildup remains to be seen. Heâs still the Rock so people will be excited to see him on Raw or SD but Philly is going to eat him alive.

what's the best case scenario? Do a complete 180 and have Rock say " no Cody, I trust you , do this". Still doesn't change the segment of Cody running away Correct. They fumbled. Itâs done. This isn't just a fumble, it's Jim Marshall running the wrong way and scoring a safety instead of a touchdown.

Theyâre aware that Wrestlemania is in Philly right? And even more importantly the Raw after Mania is in Philly. Are they hoping for the return of Die Rocky Die chants?
Although to be fair, HHH and Rock have never really gotten along. Maybe HHH is setting him up for failure here knowingly.

I legitimately do not believe they will do this, it makes no sense from any business perspective. Mania is already sold, it's done. It doesn't generate extra sales, subscriptions, tickets, anything, by adding Rock. Mania is Mania. Rock draws extra money to a B-PPV, not to Mania when it's already sold. Cody legitimately just going "Here's my dream, actually no ok bye" kills him forever as a face if they go through with it, but teasing it and yanking the fans' chain can tap into the Daniel Bryan Yes Movement, CM Punk Summer of Punk, "hijack the show" energy as well as make fans feel like their voice matters again after years of misery booking, if the fans 'change the plan' and Cody gets his main event back. Have him actually forfeit the shot, and lose at EC or face Roman after Mania? Doesn't matter, he's dead, toast, either he's buried or it's too late moment's passed. So there goes your best potential bet to head up the company going forwards after Roman- and they HAVE to have an after Roman, because he's barely around as-is and is set on trying to crack Hollywood despite lacking the charisma for it, either way WWE continues once Roman's gone and Cody is their best bet to follow him. Rock can barely get to the ring without being gassed, he got injured to hell in his last match and that was what, 12 years ago? 11? His body can't handle a Mania Main Event, at least not right now, and I doubt he can get ready in time. I'm not a big fan of a lot of HHH's booking but I can't see him being this stupid, or TKO this shortsighted. TKO want money. Rock won't generate as much extra money at Mania, as at a different show- possibly down the road, when Roman's dropped the title so there's actual doubt over the winner. Roman/Rock without the title at a B-PPV or a Summerslam draws because is Roman beating The Rock in his last match and set to go back to the title hog, or is Rock beating Roman and sending Roman off into the sunset to Hollywood?
I've been wrong about this shit before but it would be insane beyond belief if they go through with this, as is presented, Cody just meekly surrendering to Rock.

It's incredible how WWE have squandered their excellent first half of 2023. Everyone seems less over than they were last year, the storylines seem stale and tired, and after all that bullshit with Roman and Cody last year, they are pivoting to Roman/Rock and Cody gets the consolation prize.
Weak. A. F.

According to the front page of F4W, a Gunther "championship anniversary celebration" segment is being advertised for Raw... I wonder if Cody/Gunther is a legit possibility now. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to the idea any other year, except for the fact the man just won the Royal Rumble. I know we have a historic reign, but Cody will essentially be Austin Theorying the Rumble title shot. For as much as I'd love to see this match one day, I'd rather have a newer or less established star end the reign of the Ring General. Who knows, really. It's theoretically one of the only ways Cody could maintain momentum but it still feels like a downgrade in spite of how made Gunther is. It's really a detriment to both of them to have this match happen after all of that, like would the match be good? Yes. Would the reason it's happening completely kill the vibe of it? Yes. GUNTHER deserves someone else because if Cody is in anything but THE title picture at Mania it just feels like a complete waste of his entire character and his entire storyline, and it makes the Intercontinental Title, a belt built up so hard up to this point, put in an unnecessarily shitty position where Cody couldn't go for the big belt because of The Rock so now he needs a consolation prize It'd be eerily similar to Cody winning the TNT Title all over again, and it'd be really ironic if it happened that way. I have no f***ing clue what Cody does now but anything at Mania is going to feel like a complete letdown, and given Cody has already been Intercontinental Champion it's not even an accolade he needs to accomplish... Really this whole thing sucks because now we're like "Well maybe it happens this way" and "Well maybe Cody does THIS" and it's like... they had the ending, they had it for two years now and it was so f***ing easy to do and now we gotta deal with the fact they've absolutely f***ing blown it for Old Ass Gassed Rocky doing a power move and f***ing it all up...

I feel like if Cody faces Gunther then Cody is completely done as a top guy. There are ways to quickly put Cody back in Roman's path if he beats Seth, but sticking him in the midcard scene I don't see a way he doesn't get completely bogged down in it for the foreseeable future. Either Gunther beats him and Cody takes a major loss at a time he can't afford it that shows he really isn't good enough or Cody wins the belt and is stuck with an albatross that traps him feuding with the Kaisers and Ivars and Bronsons of the world and quickly makes him less special in the process.
It'd basically be what happened to Nakamura. He won the Intercontinental title feud quickly after the AJ one and then promptly plummeted off the face of the earth in terms of relevance.

To what end? The story wrote itself, twice. Yeah like even in the world where all of this is a fakeout work... congrats? You pissed everyone off?? Like everyone was just ready to celebrate Cody, they were at the Rumble when he won the damn thing, they were last year even after he lost at Mania they still showed you they backed him This isn't Daniel Bryan, Bryan's story was he was being told over and over he couldn't do it, and then they actually BOOKED IT THAT WAY until Vince was forced to pivot back because the crowds were that feral at their decision of Orton vs Batista. Cody has always been presented as a top class talent who needs to complete his arc and become the world champion, never really as an underdog, but as a constant threat, and after Mania last year it sucked, RAW after Mania made him look like a fool, but he worked to get back again and he just gave it away to The Rock with absolutely zero hesitation. If it's a work it's the shittiest work of all time and HHH is a massive asshole, but it's not a work, it's The Rock, now with company control, wanting the spotlight and thinking he needs it over a guy who was absolutely fine being within it and everyone wanted to see succeed for two years now.
