If you’re to assume that the Vince situation is going to get worse and it likely will, it would be difficult to completely erase him from the company if his son-in-law is the head of creative.
Paul falling on the sword here was always gonna be a possibility.

If reports are true and Rock is pushing his power around and TKO executives are fawning over him, then I can understand how this happened. I can’t imagine Triple H is very happy about it. He clearly wouldn’t have had Rhodes win the Rumble if he knew this a week ago.
Really curious if they’ll think of something different to pivot to. I would do the 2 nights thing if I was them. WrestleKingdom did it. Cody fights someone in a grudge match night 1, Rock mains against Roman. Cody faces the winner night 2

What kind of response do we get on Monday about the "loser's bracket title" (should Cody challenge Rollins)? What type of fiery promo can Cody and Seth (and possibly Drew) deliver to invest fans in a match no one really wanted to see? Or do they swerve us again by having Cody take on Gunther or (heaven forbid) Dragunov? I really want to eat crow here, and maybe I will, but as it stands today? What a mess. Roman buried the title but it really isnt a lie. When the title first debuted it was basically the "Cant Beat Roman" World Title, there is nothing you can say to come back

I don't know if that PWI report is true but it makes 100% sense.
I do think that Rock vs Reigns will make WM bigger than Cody vs Reigns. It'll get more mainstream attention, more social media interaction, and all of those other metrics that look great to corporate types but are absolutely useless in the long term.
And that's exactly what this is. It's TKO and the Rock doing that business thing of looking at short term gains instead of what's going to happen in six months and f*** the people who are there every week.
Plus, if they think that throwing out Rock vs Reigns will distract everyone from the Vince stuff they must think the WWE fans and the media are babies that can be distracted by jangling keys. I think Deadline et al have space on their website to talk about both.

My little nephew just saw the segment and his first reaction was "aw hell no" and "Cody is dumb bro". Jey is his favorite wrestler but he still wanted Cody to finish his story. He basically called Rock an oldhead lol

Cody winning last year would've solved any problems.
I don't blame them for doing this at all now, because this Mania was lacking something for me with Punk's injury because there's no big time challenger for Seth and at the end of the day, as much as it would be a great moment for Cody, Cody v Roman is a rematch from last year with an obvious result. This is their way of making it bigger.

Man, who knew in 2024 these 3 would be the new reign of terror in WWE.
If you told someone this in 2024 that these people would be poison in this industry, they would tell you to point in Triple H's direction.

WWE has been gaining in the younger demo the last two years. They have to be careful not to rely too much on the nostalgia acts at the expense of someone the younger crowd loves right now.
Not that The Rock won’t pop huge ratings when he’s advertised right now because he will, but will it hurt the demo after Mania’s over if they’ve neutered Cody’s overness? That’s definitely possible.
They need to navigate this extremely carefully in order to maintain Cody’s overness and ability to lead the company. If it has to be like this, I’d have Cody and Seth build up their match to be something very meaningful (that’s tricky) so that Cody winning the title in the main event of Night 1 is seen as a big deal (but also don’t have Cody pivot and say anything about this finishing his story). Between Mania and MITB, Cody can get screwed out of the title (whether Priest, Drew or Gunther). He then wins MITB and does a preplanned cash in at Summerslam to main event against Roman.

How can you even back an up and coming face or a hot storyline in WWE now without the thought in the back of your mind that The Rock will pull a Hogan and just be like "doesn't work for me brother." Just dumbfounding to me.

Just dumbfounding to me. I’m sure people will still have that thought in the back of their mind, as they have all along. But I can’t imagine Rock is going to be working much more (if at all) after Mania.
