Is he going to main event either night with what is supposed to be the big boy title over Rock/Roman or whatever the WHC is doing? Against who? Ending all of this at EC just so some old ass dude can waltz in and take the main event is absolutely ridiculous.

I don’t understand the notion that Cody winning at EC somehow salvages the storyline. The whole point was finally defeating the final boss Roman on the biggest stage of them all.

This is unsalvageable and is typical WWE nonsense of failing to see the forest through the trees and pissing away an entire year of storyline just to generate some social media buzz.

On one hand, it is possible they pull a Bryan or something and Cody ends up in the match and actually does Finish the Story™. Especially if people get pissed enough and hold their feet to the fire if Cody just giving up his Rumble win is actually 100% the plan. Whether they planned for it or just get so much heat from fans that they have to, they can bust out the 2014 "this was our genius plan all along and got you all worked!" verbiage.

On the other, I can absolutely see the guy that contractually negotiated equal punches for him and other characters in a Fast and Furious fistfight that recently joined the board not giving a f*** about Cody's story and wanting his big one on one marquee match with Roman and the rest of higher ups agreeing.

Imagine going through all of this and the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is a retread of Cena in '08. A match that ended in a disqualification and Cena being put into a triple threat for the title anyway, and then losing it there. None of those story beats are satisfying to havep lay out here even if they take some of them away. None of that is wanted. None of that helps the story of 'Cody beats Roman on the second go'. This is so simple.

I do hope the "Cody will bounce back" lot are right but I'm worried about his 'Sasha has been told she's jobbing tonight' facial expression when he announced the Rock's arrival. He's not that good of an actor and it lends weight to my theory that this was a VERY recent decision and Cody had been told about it days or even hours beforehand.

No but that's not the point, the point is you're dismissing my post solely on the idea it's "DOOM" to say that WWE won't end their big focal point title run at a PPV airing on a Saturday morning. I don't know why you'd quote a post just to not engage with literally any of its words.

Someone's going to bring up Bryan at WMXXX. While it's true they pivoted there, they could only do so because 1)Punk walked out and 2) amusingly enough, Bryan being shafted was something that magically was still there story-wise from the previous summer to ride as an underdog story. It was the perfect vehicle to funnel out fan frustration from Punk leaving how he did.

You can't do that here - Cody's been the big, strong babyface for two years. He already had the Rumble win and every legitimate case to just take it. It makes him look worse to not avenge his loss at the biggest stage, and worse to give that spotlight away to someone who does not need it or has done anything for him in the story.
