Remember a long time ago when raw suffered a big drop in ratings while he wasn’t there-and there was actually a theory floating that he had somehow sabotaged tv’s across the country to manipulate the ratings? It’s true-our tears give him his supper powers.

Sami, Cody and Drew are still big stars that wouldn’t really be any bigger if they’d won the title. Especially since Cody and Sami likely will be world champ within a year. If becoming world champion by ending a historic title reign in either your hometown or at the most watched Mania in history doesn't make you a bigger star...then what are we doing here folks? What will? They’ve already been made huge pillar stars of the company, and all three have already main evented Wrestlemania. Cody is the one I can see losing a little luster if he never actually “finishes the story” but we’ll see how the follow up is and if it looks like he will get to finish it. They would’ve been huge moments for them of course, but I haven’t personally perceived their value/credibility diminished yet.

Tonight, Hunter said, "f*** it. I probably won't have a job tomorrow." Kinda feels like he lost it Sunday morning.

Ok you are officially just saying shit to try and justify this booking and this run because... WHAT? Drew winning in his home country would have made him a bigger star, Sami winning in Montreal would have made him a bigger star, Cody winning at Mania in front of everyone, his family, and Brodie would have absolutely made him a bigger star This is the Undisputed World Title, this is the longest reign WWE's had in decades. This by default, makes anyone an even bigger star, in those moments especially. It is absolutely insane to me that you'd even present this point and be serious about it... this shit matters, and given where Drew is, not having renewed his deal with WWE yet, it might matter for the talent in the end too that waiting and seeing doesn't always work out. I don't think he's saying shit just to say it for defending sake. I just don't think he is being hyperbolic about the situation and saying this doesn't ruin Cody or the company. He's just giving you his point of view. And if he was defending a bad booking decision then you of all people should understand that. And I don't mean that as a swipe at you. Regardless, he shouldn't be getting be ganged up on because his opinion is different. Thanks, I gave up even posting more last night after seeing where everyone’s heads were at (coming for my head for some reason!)

I've seen a few people try and argue Jey Uso is the guy to finally beat Roman but number one I just don't think he's that level of star, and I dont think WWE see him as that kind of star either.
And number two, haven't they kind of dropped any idea that he was conflicted and secretly a babyface being forced to do heel things? The Rumble made you think that was where they were going but since he turned on Sami he's just been a classic generic heel hasn't he? He's back to just being a lackey to Roman Reigns it looks like.
Are they really going to do a "How loyal is Jey Uso?" story for the third time? It's surely beyond done now.

I still think it's just as simple as the new buyer didn't want massive change during the sale.

Imagine leaving WWE after you're told you'll never be a main eventer, building up your brand and becoming a huge star, helping start a companty that provides real competition to WWE, leaving that company to come back to WWE where your run has a thesis statement of "This is the title my father never held, I believe he should have rightly held it, so I'm doing this for him", and then a year later you're losing because actually f***ing Jey Uso has got to be the guy.

I do honestly think they've probably utterly killed Cody's chances of being a major draw for them with this. There were reports just the other day that his merch sales are getting better and better, he's been a consistent ratings draw, and now, so what, doesn't matter, best he can hope for is to maybe beat Theory but probably not even that, who gives a f***. He isn't going to amount to anything so why believe in him? And even if they do split the belts and give him one, whatever, he got a pity belt because he can't win the real one, who cares? We’ll see if that’s how it plays out but I’d imagine he’ll have Raw built around him and his feuds.

All they had to do was just have Cody go over. It was right there! Now WWE is the LA Chargers in the playoffs: expected to cock it up at the critical moment. And the more this keeps happening, the harder and harder it is to get people to buy in for the next challenger that seems destined to do the thing. I joke about “Do the babyfaces have to win every match and every confrontation and squash the heels every time and leaving them shitting their pants in fear to get people to believe in them?”, but it may legit almost be at that point. I often think of this, but didn’t post it on the board until now because it feeds the silly fanboy fights and all that, but it rings true today… You could have the same match with the same wrestlers. If it happens in an AEW ring, the thought is “This could be good, here’s how I expect it to be good”. If it happens in a WWE ring, the thought is “This could be good, here’s how I expect it to be bad”. Until WWE can change that default reaction, they’ll never be viewed the same open-minded way as other wrestling promotions. But like I said, they keep making it harder and harder for that to happen. monocle? And even more baffling is they knocked out of the park for night 1! All good! But to paraphrase Bobby Heenan, That was only part 1, they should've finished it.

I have some other thoughts (and need to finish reading the last couple pages of the thread), but this did strike me as an interesting observation. I feel like there's a double-edged sword on this: people routinely go into WWE booking with that air, as you say, of expecting the worst to happen, however they happen to personally define "worst". This does lead to an air of general negativity, and given how the bulk of the last 20 years of booking has gone, it can be tough to fight that perception. Yet at the same time it's always blown me away how eager so many people are to get giddy when WWE is good versus whenever another promotion is consistently giving good output. I get it; many of us grew up watching WWF/WWE, plus it's the most easily accessible mainstream wrestling, so people want it to be good, but it's crazy sometimes to see, just as a non-scientific observation, what kinds of shows people are willing to give 10s in our Rate the Show threads or how they react to booking they disagree with - if WWE gives them something, people are eager to give it high marks, because they really want to like it; if other promotions give you a strong show but maybe have a questionable booking choice or two, you see things get dragged or rated lower. That may just be a "grading on a curve" thing, or people having higher or lower expectations for different promotions, but it's still a vibe I get a lot of the time, could just be me.

It’s probably because when WWE puts out a great product, there is no parallel in terms of production, glitz, glamour, importance, gravitas, etc. But by the same token, if they have all of those things in play and are telling the story and people are invested and the outcome they didn’t want to happen happens, they’re even more hyperbolically upset by the finish and you’ll get the 1/10 votes for shows flowing out of that.

When I was in middle school, I used to get bullied by this guy named Gary. He was an asshole.
Gary was on our school's baseball team. One fateful day, there's a baseball game in the final inning, and Gary's at bat. He hits a home run! Now Gary was an asshole but I can't deny, he legit knocked it out of the park. He rounds 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and as he's heading towards home, he shits his pants. I'm talking violently shits his pants. He stops. A silence falls over the crowd. His father comes onto the field, with a hose, and has to hose Gary down to in order to wash the shit stains off of him.
HHH is Gary.

Cody should've won last night.
This was meant to be his moment, and it feels very much like they pulled the rug out from under him to just hit the audience with a "GOTCHA!".
If this was done because Endeavor didn't want to shake things up ahead of the takeover, that was the wrong call. You're supposed to cater to the audience.
I don't see any justification for this. Even if you really, really love having Roman as the top guy, are you not getting a little tired of this? Will there ever be a better opportunity for him to be knocked off his pedestal, even if for a short time?

I missed both nights of Mania between work and seeing Morbid Angel play, but just seeing the reactions to this reminds me why I gave up on the product years ago.
I don't mind watching a random PPV from time to time, but I do not miss being miserable because of what they do lol. Having zero investment or care helps tremendously

Don’t start that garbage please Doesn't feel so good, does it? I always try to comment on posts and not the poster, so I’m not sure what the deal is with that? If me expressing opinions on WWE in a positive light is detracting from everyone’s experience so much then I’ll scale it back. (And I said I would’ve booked Cody to win!)

I think it's also because we know how good WWE, well, CAN BE. Especially those of us who grew up when it was white hot, we know how damn good it can be. We've seen the pinnacle of peak WWE. AEW has strong moments, and really good wrestling, but it's still young and growing. AEW is still growing that brand, but given the more fan friendly booking there's already a higher bar set. So when WWE gives us little flickers of hope, we latch onto them like "See! Now do this more! You have the talent pool, just keep doing this!" And then they kick us in the groin and laugh and take our money

HHH loves long title reigns yet is completely clueless on how to keep a title reign fresh and creative. If Roman does not stand tall as champion at the end of SummerSlam after interference from the Bloodline who are as tight a unit as ever, I will be legitimately shocked.

Interesting little note I saw elsewhere online. While the Cody/Roman stuff is mostly split on YouTube in terms of likes/dislikes, the Bianca stuff is heavily tilted towards dislikes. Not that I think it means much, but it's fascinating that even the YT crowd hated her going over last night. Another fumble on the part of Triple H.
