WrestleMania 31 - Roman/Brock I. They needed Seth to cash in because Roman's main event push was flopping WrestleMania 32 - Roman/Triple H. Roman's push still going terribly ends with him getting booed after he beats Triple H WrestleMania 33 - Roman/Taker. Not Roman's fault, but it was the worst match of Taker's career and ended with a crowd who did not want to see him as a face anymore WrestleMania 34 - Roman/Brock II. Crowd booed the entire match out of the building and gave it "boring" chants WrestleMania 37 - Roman/Bryan/Edge. again, not really his fault, but crowd was split between the two faces, and Roman's win was met with silence and disappointment WrestleMania 38 - Roman/Brock III. Crowd was largely fatigued with this feud as it was entering year 6. Match ending not really met with any reaction WrestleMania 39 - Roman/Cody. Probably the best match of the lot, but again fans leave disappointed.
Individually, most of these matches were pretty good, but none of them exist in a vacuum. Fans are just going to start assuming any main event with Roman in it is going to end with them being disappointed. If you were 13 when you started watching WWE at WM 31, you would only associate main events with Roman being in them as "disappointing".

WM 32, 33 and 34 were basically three horrible Main Events back to back!

I don’t even think the matches have been very good. The first half of the match doesn’t matter and the second half is just kicking out of stuff until one guy doesn’t. No move works unless used a whole bunch of times. It’s like playing WCW/nWo Revenge on N64. It’s not very creative nor very interesting once you know the result.

I honestly like Roman. As a guy, as a Final Boss character, even as a wrestler. The guy has one of my favorite themes today.
The way this guy is booked has ALWAYS been my number one gripe with him. Whether it's the flat storylines and square-peg babyface antics of the past or his repetitive main event booking in his current run.
I feel like we've seen this same match over and over again and it's going to take some kind of special build to get me this interested in a Roman match. It's really made me do a complete 180 on the long term visibility of WWE's product in less than 24 hours (Endeavor sale included).

Nearly all of Roman's matches end terribly and they pretty much always have.

The presentation with Roman as this big final boss is inconsistent with the reality (having his family constantly run interference for him to win). I can definitely agree with this. The aura in his entrance is definitely weakened by the time the match ends. I think Gunther may almost be booked as that "final boss" a little better. Sure, he has Kaiser and Vinci doing his bidding but they're largely non-factors in his bigger matches. Which makes the Roman retention seem even more frustrating. You essentially have the same type of character holding your two biggest championships, only one is booked infinitely better in his title retains.

I agree with the core of this, but Roman/Taker wasn't even the worst post-streak Undertaker match.

I agree with the core of this, but Roman/Taker wasn't even the worst post-streak Undertaker match. I can see the argument for it, but it's a bit of a pick your poison thing. Which is worse, an old man desperately trying to keep up against a younger, better athlete and failing miserably in a pathetic, drawn out slog, or two old men struggling not to die for ten minutes in the desert sun while they keep dropping each other on their heads? I'm inclined to say the latter if only for how blatantly f***ing negligent the entire premise of the match was and how easily someone could have gotten seriously hurt, but Goldberg / Taker is also way more actually watchable than Reigns / Taker because a car wreck is easier to watch than a dude slowly aging to dust.
