been a bit and wanted to say hello again
have been very good but lately, i have wanted to try to get back into wrestling.
with how tense things had been around picking the "right guy" in WWE online (not just here) and AEW just kind of losing my interest steadily (i still watch, has been way better last few weeks), i was pretty down and out as a wrasslin fan. i ended up taking things too personal when i reaaaaally wanted sami to be the guy so i took off and decided a few days later i would watch wwe/aew without reading any rumors or talking about any of it online and see if i could get that enjoyment back.
turns out, that was for the best and i saw what everyone else saw in cody. yo, this dude RULED. he was getting massive pops, his matches were hella fun and honestly, i just dug him. i ended up liking him more than sami as "the guy" and it just felt like one of those moments where history would be made at mania. he felt like cena but with a wrestling style i preferred and less controversial, even if i appreciate Cena immensely now.
anyways i said eh screw it and decided after a lot of back and forth that i would finally go to mania. i had sold my initial tickets in a ill informed rush after the day we all thought the saudis bought the company but ended up with a much better deal anyways. saved around $400. i bought those tickets and i could've cried, i was so excited. finally, a childhood dream come true. not being online really got me into the right mindset for mania, i didn't know a single rumor and hell, i didn't even know WWE was sold/merged until AFTER the show.
didn't get night one tickets because i wanted to see my new boy cody take the titles and couldn't really swing a two day pass, that's like 6 hours of LA traffic but my tickets for night two were super good. here are some thoughts!
Line to get in Review: i ended up making a ton of new friends and everyone pretty much agreed on who they wanted to win, which was really shocking. those predictions were the opposite of what happened lmao. we got in quick once the doors opened at 2:30 and i heard one guy scream "SUUUUUUUUUUPERSLAM" which made me say "indeed."
Food Review: got some carne asada tacos at the arena, they were actually pretty good but that might have been because the lady gave me some extra salsa verde. i saw what she put on everyone elses. i think it was the wrestlemania 39 gold chain. she knew i was legit. in reality, i think it was because i said thank you and bowed a little because i am socially awkward and was really hungry. the food would pale in comparison to other LA food but for stadium food, it really was not bad. i'm an angels fan, i know how bad california stadium food can get.
Beer Review: you gotta be kidding me man. that was so expensive. i did get the guy to put it in the wrestlemania cup though. kinda weird to be chugging down some modelo while looking at austin theory but you know, it happens. i'm sure plenty have also been driven to alcohol looking at this man.
Wrestlemania Bear Review: I got a bear for the SO at one of the merch trucks and a wrestlezaynia shirt. that is a damn good bear. he has a jersey and no matter the match results, he is surely going over. she appreciated the bear and the bear is now plotting to take down vince.
Preshow Review: I was a little bummed we didn't get matches but that DJ guy seemed really into it. sitting so close to the action and seeing 81 thousand people gradually make it into the arena is something i will never forget. there was just so many people.
Pyro Review: not too bad but felt a little underwhelming until the main event. not much you can do with a closed stadium though so it is all good.
America The Beautiful Review: missed opportunity not having cody sing it. i know i'm not the only one who wanted to see that. was fine but i'm not a huge fan of interludes during it.
Omos/Lesnar Review: i'd say this was actually a perfect start to the night! i wasn't really sold on omos but i was next to a ton of "omosapien" fans and their enthusiasm got me really into it. when omos lost we were all acting like a lot of people did after the main event and idk, i love shit like that lmao.
Bobby Lashley Statue Review: this confused all of us. we thought LA Knight would come out to challenge him or Bobby would fight someone but no, this dude just came out there with a bigass statue he struggled to carry around and that was it. shit looked bigger than a ps5, impressive.
Showcase Match Review: raquel is talented as hell but she seriously needs to stop smiling during every move. it weirds me out man. she would be kicking someone in the liver and smiling like i do when i'm grillin' some steaks. it's just not right. bad match but i'm glad everyone got a paycheck and some time on the card, they obviously deserve it.
Gunther/Sheamus/Drew Review: the best match i've ever seen in person and the definite highlight (urghhhhh) of the night. i was pulling for gunther or sheamus so i was psyched but let me tell you, that match was absolutely beautiful. can't think of a single flaw with it, have gone back to watch it again several times. man i love gunther so much it is unreal.
Bianca/Asuka Review: love me some bianca and asuka so i wasn't really pulling for either lady to win but it is kinda weird how asuka can't seem to win at mania. i wanted asuka to get her moment and to shake things up on raw but really, bianca is so good that i really didn't mind. a lot of my section was pretty pissed that asuka lost at mania again though. i think this match will go down as an underrated classic eventually, it was really damn good.
The Quad Destruction Review: I feel like a genuine asshole for how this went down. I was yelling "snooooooooooooooooooooooop" cause I love him like everyone else but when Shane's music hit, I turned around to the people around me and was like "why? why? this dude is so old, he's gonna hurt himself, why?". they said he'll be fine and right when they said that, this dude pulled the exploding knees meme out of nowhere. i couldn't even dare to look back after that, i heard them laughing and let me tell you, it took every single ounce of self control to not laugh because like, nobody wants to laugh at an injury but imagine yourself in that situation. you just spent several minutes saying "why is this old ass dude out here, he is gonna hurt himself" and his f***ing leg just goes YOINK right after you say it. might be the most surreal experience i've ever had in my life and i am very proud of myself for not crying laughing but like really, could you have blamed me if i did. i just let out a big "OH DEAR" and started chugging my beer so i wouldn't lose my shit. also snoop got some air on that elbow, well done.
Russell Crowe Edge/Turbotax Demon Hell In a Cell Review: the loudest boos of the night were for the advertisements on the screen, this included. boy oh BOY were people angry at the constant ads. you won't believe me and will think surely Roman got booed louder but i promise you, that is not the case. there was even a dude walking around with a sign that said "f*** You Turbotax" and he handed out several more to people from what I saw. the loudest boo of the night was easily when the advertisement for the movie hit, before russell crowe's face hit the screen. match was fun and i was a little irritated at the crowd mostly saying let them fight its just blood but i get it, hell in a cell and all. i am guessing finn got f***ed up by that ladder being thrown at him, that shit was brutal before i even saw he was bleeding from it. the ring and area around him had so much blood around it that people did eventually shut up about the match stopping for a bit. really unfortunate match with two hella cool intros but i lost my shit laughing finally at "BROOD EDGE". come on man. i love edge but come on. BROOD EDGE. get the f*** outta here. BROOD HIGHLIGHT. anyways, that spot where finn jumped onto the table and ate shit was probably my favorite part besides the realization you're surrounded by 80 thousand people telling russell crowe to f*** off. that is a moment i won't forget.
Roman Reigns/Cody Rhodes Review: I would say most of the crowd was cheering for both men actually. People clearly were ready for a new champion but roman is SUPER over, as was Cody. That first "WHOA", if I could turn that into a substance and roll around in it like an obese cat with a catnip addiction, I would. The entrances were absolutely amazing and so was the match. There really wasn't THAT much of a lets go roman/lets go cody difference, people liked both of them and just enjoyed what was going on. Too many moments to count where the crowd and I absolutely lost it and went crazy and that was just so much fun. Heck, I was holding up the one finger during Roman's entrance and during Cody's entrance, I was basically levitating. That's how most people were until the finish which just sucked the soul out of the arena. That initial pop after the 3 count was INSANE and super loud but it was probably around 30% of people genuinely excited Roman won and 70% of people going "HUH!?!?!??! WHAT!?!?!?". People were shocked and it was a surreal environment, let me tell ya. Once the pyro hit with roman walking back on the ramp, most people around me were saying "WTF" and "that can't be it", including people I literally saw go banana for Roman. Weird environment, that is for sure and not at all what I was expecting. I really think WWE f***ed it up but just goes to show that if you go live, you get a different experience than at home. People love them some Roman.
Aftershow/Hot Dog/Traffic Review: As I was walking outside of Sofi Stadium, people seemed way more depressed than the crowd around me when the moment happened. I shit you not, I saw some parents consoling their crying children saying "don't worry it's not real, it's not real you don't have to cry" and the kids just crying harder. This sounds objectively funny but man, I felt bad for them. I saw a lot of people really upset, cody fans telling roman fans to F off and I'm still pretty surprised I didn't see any fights. totally different vibe outside of the arena as opposed to inside it. when i was going to my car to get out of there, i realized it would take a while so i got a bacon wrapped hot dog from one of the random vendors outside the arena. i thought to myself "wow that was a really dumb decision to have cody get lex lugered but at least i have my hot dog" and truly, it was a good end to the night. good hot dog, not sure it needed the bacon though. i ate that hot dog and took in the sights of people yelling about traffic, how roman is bitchmade and only wins because of his family and how stardust is coming back on monday.
good times, great times. after that raw i'm fairly sure i won't watch as regularly as i did the last month or two if that keeps up (just saw vince is probably back but just goes to show that no matter the results/matches, wrestlemania is always worth going to as long as you can swing it. having your only wrestlemania be night 2 where cody got bodied and still having a blast is proof enough. highly recommend going at least once in your life.
