One if the big questions is just what comes next of/when Cody wins the title. For how he has been booked this far I feel that Cody as an old school fighting champion, taking any and all comers would be the best fit rather than having him face the same opponents we have already seen countless times over. And when I look at the roster as is, Gunther strikes me as the best choice to be the first title challenger; he’s over enough with the audience to be a credible challenger and he has not been in the main event, nor has he worked with Cody before, providing something new and fresh as the first title opponent. At the very least Cody having a short title program with Gunther would a reprieve before he drops the strap back to Roman, which we all know is the most likely outcome.

It'd be a really good match if they let it.
I know that a lot of people would want a "Suplex City" equivalent, and Cody can definitely sell that kind of thing, like when he lost the TNT title to Brodie Lee. He's more than qualified.
It'd just really be a waste, though. We've had what feels like a decade of Brock doing it, and it's not really surprising or shocking anymore. I'd rather have it be an actual match. And for that reason, I'd not like Gunther to be the first challenger. I feel like Gunther is too credible to put in a foregone conclusion title defense.

Gunther v Cody for the title, with Gunther wanting the title and to chop off that stupid tattoo is a match that should not be a foregone conclusion match. It's a bonafide big 4 PPV match.

my original theory was cody beats roman for the titles then drops it to Gunther after Gunther sets the longest IC champ run record.
