It made me really irrationally hate Jeremy Piven and Ken Jeong. Though Ken won me back as Senor Chang in Community. And I felt vindicated by Piven turning out to be kind of a piece of shit. Dare I ask about Piven?

Gonna go back and watch the Barker, Shatner and Muppets episodes. Heard Hugh Jackman did well too but don't recall I remember him being clearly pumped to be there, think he helped Zack Ryder win a match.

Given how big a star Hugh Jackman is,he was so great and looked like he really had fun when so easily a star of his calibre could just half ass it. The Muppets are always a treat and Jesse Ventura was nostalga and fun too.

I remember there was like a 4 month period during this time where Raw was exactly the same with the only difference being the guest host themselves.
*Guest host comes out to say hello and plugs whatever they are there to plug
*Jeri-Show come out to be jerks to the guest host.
*DX come out to help guest host.
*Guest host books a match that is some form of DX vs Jeri-Show.
*Guest host forces Chavo Guerrero to face Horswoggle with the BS stipulation to give Hornswoggle the advantage.
*DX beats Jeri-Show in the main event and celebrates with the guest host.
Without a doubt my least favorite time in wrestling was the Guest host era of Raw.

Didn't the girl who played Raven in ''That's so Raven'' do one? I remember her one being a car wreck lol. I think the Raven bit was a segment on Saturday Night's Main Event. If I'm remembering correctly, it was worse than that, it was a Wrestlemania. She was introducing a bunch of sick kids from a charity (possibly a make a wish thing?) who were in the crowd that night.
That's fine, you think. Nothing wrong there... until she points them out and tells them to stand up and give us a wave, as the camera cuts to a bunch of people, most of who are in wheelchairs or are very obviously not capable of standing.

I started watching again towards the end of the guest host era, but I enjoyed Hugh Jackman because he's apparently a real fan and he seemed happy to be doing it.

There were some good hosts, but it was mostly terrible. And, to make things worse, the infamous Hornswoggle/Chavo Guerrero feud was happening at the same time.

They really should have limited it to people who actually cared about wrestling and could actually do something good for the show. Having someone like Piven come out and get the name of your third biggest show wrong is a terrible look.
And some of the choices for hosts were pretty baffling. For the good ones like Jackman, Seth Green, Barker, Shatner and Freddie Prince Jr you had Piven, Ashton Kutcher, Al Sharpton, some of the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine, The Three Stooges (felt bad for Will Sasso though) and the cast of The A Team sans Liam Neeson.
Some of thrm looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Makes one wonder just how bad Jonah Hills segments must have been to have never aired.

People mention the Piven episode, but the most cringe moment for me at least was when Cena put over Piven's movie "The Goods" with the upmost seriousness that it was going to be like a life-changing experience or something.

It was an awful time that I get the general like beginnings of an idea of, but nah man that was f***ing hell. Turning Raw into late night TV doesn't work because late night TV's best personalities are great interviewers and sounding boards, so someone coming by on their media cycle can be the front-facing point. But wrestling is its own very loud world of huge personalities, so the celebrities often didn't mesh or get a chance to shine because there was more buy-in and it was way less About Them, and fans struggles to pretend to care because they were faced with people who were there to plug their upcoming movie and clearly thought it was beneath them.
But you look at the reaction to some of the more fondly remembered ones, and it's clear that it doesn't need to be that way. Wrestling fans still talk fondly years later about Bob Barker for him just committing like the showman he was to his segment. Or Hugh Jackman being an obvious fan. Celebrities who actually give a shit tend to be fondly remembered, and slot in because they're willing to make that buy-in and care. It's just a different energy

Jeremy Piven was pretty legit and into the whole wrestling product. He promoted the product with his build up for the Summerfest event.

One celebrity who definitely looked like he didnāt want to be there was Dennis Miller.
Despite telling the fans to give the wrestlers a round of applause and saying that he does watch Raw, you can tell he wasnāt a fan. (He called Khali, The Big Great Khali.) There were even some inside jabs to the fact that he hated it by @jokinglyā indicating the show was bad. Also, look at him. He looked like he didnāt want to be there. Although, I will say I did like HHH calling him Dennis Millburn.
RD Reynolds should induct him and talk about his āgloriousā stint on Monday Night Football.

Shaq was good, as was Mayweather.
Then again they may not count, since they've done stuff in wrestling before being hosts and in Shaq's case wrestled after his guest host stint.

Did the guest hosts idea come about the night Raw was "sold" or did that come about afterwards as a way to apologize for the fake sale/stock decline?
I'm thinking it was #1. Does Vince actually think any non wrestling fans will tune in just because Piven or Miller or Buzz or others were on? Or is Vince just obsessed with having others feel WWF is so mainstreem that of course celebrities will want to be a part of it?
I do think it sucks that Burt Reynolds wasn't a part of this. He was a legit fan but I guess because that made too much sense for Vince. Was Regis on Raw? Looks like he did a congrats on 1000 episodes but I don't recall a guest host. IIRC he and Burt were never a part of anything else other than Wrestlemania and Raw 1000 for Regis. And Regis had so many wrestlers on his program.
