I kinda hate Section 31, especially post DS9 where it is made explicitly clear that they are a sanctioned, founding aspect of the Federation (They have their own damn badges in Discovery!!)
On the other hand I love Michelle Yeoh as Georgiou...
On the other hand Empress Georgiou is literally Space Hitler.

Pretty stoked myself. Section 31 has always been fascinating to me as the spies or special agents of the Federation. Georgina is a perfect fit for the organization.

Section 31's one of those things where I think it had its initial purpose in existing and don't mind the idea of it but they've gotten waaaay too hung up on it and just kind of made it stupid.

I kinda liked it better when they weren't as commonly used. Made it feel like when they did show up, there had to be an awfully good reason to do so.

I'm nearly always up for any new Star Trek, I've been a fan since I was a child. That said, I really feel tthey are making section 31 too prominent. It really should be limited in appearances. But then, I think that at its heart the federation should be as noble as it aspires to be (on the whole, it'll never be perfect). There is room for something like section 31, but given it's nature it should be quite secretive and barely known about.
One thing I love about Star Trek is the optimism for the future. These days it's so easy to look at everything, say we're doomed and throw up a post-apocalyptic or megacorp dystopia setting and call it a day. Now, more than ever, Star Treks optimism about mankind's future sets it apart. Something like section 31 makes me worry that it's treading down a path that would be better suited to other franchises.

I kinda want to watch Picard because in a universe where the Federation has to share space with the existential threat of The Borg, and is frenemies with a race that has an extremely strong martial spirit like the Klingons, they would absolutely have to have something like Section 31 to bring out the swords when the ploughshares fail.
But, as so much media seems to be growing darker, I don't know that I really want to see Star Trek get cynical like that as well....

My headcannon is that post enterprise and the formation of the Federation Archer and Shran, besties as they were, where the secret founding members of Section 31 and ran around having epic secret adventures that weren't all super grim dark and evil just fun spy stuff! Maybe some gadgets like shuttles with ejector seats... Lol.
Which is what I wish they would occasionally do with Section 31, they always are doing outright evil stuff which makes you wonder why there wouldn't be a concerted effort to get rid of them and makes the Federation look stupid.

But, as so much media seems to be growing darker, I don't know that I really want to see Star Trek get cynical like that as well.... As Hit Girl and Lizuka already said, Section 31 was perfect, and perfectly written, in its limited capacity on DS9. I appreciate how they showed that there is a time and place, and need, for both Bashir's idealism and Sloan's ruthless pragmatism. There wasn't a one dimensional resentment for the hopeful idealist by the grizzled and grounded, "I get results!" anti-hero. The show was also brave enough to not show a reconciliation either. When Bashir tore into him, and Sloan's only response was a sincere, "It is an honor to serve you." That Section 31 only emerged during the Dominion War also helped, to me at least, demonstrate the situation was truly that dire, and demanded more overt actions from Section 31 for the first time in their history.
