And another thing... Oliver a couple of years ago spent a whole episode taking the company to task for the Saudi Arabia deal (among other things) and they did nothing about it. But an off-the-cuff line about the moustache is enough to set things off for there to be a segment mocking the guy (but not really)?

Or to put it simply, just because it could be true doesn't automatically mean that it is. (The more concerning thing would be the implication that he'd be having creative input down even to NXT level)

(The more concerning thing would be the implication that he'd be having creative input down even to NXT level) I mean, not being funny, ignoring what we know about Vince and taking it as a corporate structure thing...he should. The show's on television, people are seeing it and you want these people to have stuff that works all across the WWE system. Of course there should be a connection, the fact there wasn't was one of the many reasons the developmental system is how it is now. Now, that being said, whether it works or comes off as well or if they put the work to actually getting the main roster audience to care about NXT, that remains to be seen but the work would actually need to be done which, historically, has not. But on topic, Vince is, historically, a very petty bitch. He's the same guy who dedicated an entire Raw to making fun of Stan Kroenke so if someone said he made Frazer into John Oliver because of the moustache comments? That isn't so much believable as much as I'd be f***ing shocked if it wasn't.

Vince, do you want to have a musical number crapping on you? Because if you push enough, that's how you get "Eat shit, Vince."

And now all I can picture is McDevitt distracting Vince as much as he can to avoid any of that.

Remember when this dude had a BIDDING WAR going on for him between WWE and AEW? And now he's.....this? I dunno. It was less of a bidding war and more “Hey, we can pay you to wrestle in the UK under a WWE contract rather than wait for a visa renewal during a Global Pandemic to keep wrestling in AEW” which, really, is an absolutely fair offer to take.

Between this and turning Tyler Bate into a guru hippie guy - it looks like they're trying to give the smaller/great workers something character wise to get called up.

Just should be pointed out it’d be different if it was a US signed talent this happened to.

Vince really didn't like John Oliver mocking his stache, did he? Oliver has criticized the WWE a few times... but it is totally within Vince's crazy mind that his biggest problem was Oliver mocking his mustache that required a response Of course. He doesn’t give a shit when people call him out for all that “independent contractor” bullshit, but poke fun at the stache? Time to go scorched earth, motherf***er!!!!

I think it was fine. And honestly, remember that this is NXT - not everything they do is going to hit. Maybe this helps him get more confident with promos and it allows him to go branch off in a different direction. I wouldn't be too quick to start saying that he made the wrong career decision.

I didn't see it, but if it's mimicking Jon Oliver I suspect he'll enjoy it. It wasn't even really mocking him at all, it was just using the presentation aspects of his show as a vehicle for a harmless "I've had it a bit rough lately with my results, but that's OK, these guys are tough so I've just got to get over it and get better" babyface promo. You can tell who actually hasn't watched it yet by the response to it. Like, maybe those kind of cheap potshots against Oliver himself could come in future instalments, sure, but that didn't happen here. It’d be a true John Oliver spoof if it was Frazer riffing on his rivals in much like the way Oliver does on his show.

After watching it I liked it better than I imagined I would after hearing about it. I had him pegged as one of those impressive in the ring but not much charisma guys but he pulled this off pretty well.
They could have spent an hour filming this though until they got it right. A bigger test will always be making any new character work live and in front of fans. Also, not sure if he's going to still be a babyface. The message in this video makes sense and on paper isn't heelish but there's the kind of smarmy delivery that could be leading that way.
