So I have been thinking a lot recently. I enjoy the newer games, but sometimes I just want an older game. I grew up in the NES era. I am in my 40s and LOVED games like Burgertime, Dig Dug, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Paperboy, and Q-Bert to name a handful.
So question I have is, why don't they do these much or at all anymore? I have a Q-Bert remake/remaster that comes with the original game. But where are the others? I'd love to see Ice Climber or Paperboy with somewhat updated graphics, new levels, and stuff like that. Marble Madness is another I'd love to see updated.
So what about you guys? Do you feel the same? Would you like something like I mentioned above? What arcade or NES score based games would you like to see get a new polishing?

I just want to see more couch co-op games that you can play for 5 minutes at a time like some of the ones you mentioned. One of my favorite "new" ones was BroForce and even that is almost 10 years old. I'd like to see some new Golden Axe kinda games. The newer Turtles beatum up is pretty sweet. I feel like we are long, long overdue for a good Gauntlet game too.
There are quite a few Indy games that do it but I've struck out on enough turds that I'm leery of trying more at the moment.

bubble bobble got a new game in the last 12 months in bubble bobble 4 friends: the baron is back I think they dont get remastered/re-released that often due to the game files being stupidly small and the stupidly simple yet fiendishly difficult style of gameplay not being as accepted by younger players (my brothers kids who are all in their 20's for example cannot stand megadrive or earlier games due to the games being a lot more reliant on either good timing or pin point accuracy on a control pad.) also probably a rights issue due to lots of the companies who made the games either being swallowed by other companies which then got swallowed by other companies or the original programmers owning the rights to the games themselves. you dont even really see these sort of games available on mobile/tablet outside of like sega releasing megadrive games. personally I'd love to see primal rage get a remake as that was a fun little mortal kombat/street fighter clone.

It still bothers me that there hasn't been an Ice Climbers rougelike.

Robotron 64 on the Nintendo 64 is pretty great. I'm a big fan of the original Robotron 2084 game.

While I love em, I feel like that time has passed outside of collections or maybe something you can download as a bonus feature or something somewhere.
Games now are generally way more sprawling, story driven things and I just don't think there's that much of a market for updated nostalgia games unless you could get em really cheap.

These kinds of games never really went away. They're just mostly all on mobile, now. Not to mention retro-inspired games like Shredder's Revenge, and the indie games. I think one of the hottest games is Pizza Tower, a Wario Land inspired Platformer.
I believe there's still a market for these types of games, especially with the rising retro market, but we live in a culture of hype and pitchmen where companies are always trying to push the next big thing like better graphics, expansive worlds, celebrity likenesses, so these types of games are put in the forefront.

I just want a new Adventures of Lolo or Kickle Cubicle game.
Those were the absolute best.

Mostly because the originals are usually availble to those that want them, they look weak compared to some of the excellent new games that build on retro classics (Tetris effec, Pac-man CE, Space Invaders Extreme) and/or there's an indy game that does it better anyway. You risk spending more on something that those that want a pure experience don't want and those that want something new don't want either.
Sometimes it's a nightmare when it comes to rights too.
