Sometimes age gets away from Lashley cause his long time away from WWE. Dudes been wrestling since 2005.

As they sometimes say: What the f***? Nutrition, training and medically supervised use of PED's have drastically lengthened careers. Bruno was still wrestling well into his 40's. I suspect the steroid abuse mixed in with doctors over-prescribing opioids and other painkillers drastically shortened careers. Kurt Angle was younger than what Lashley is right now during his WWE return and barely looked like he could move. There have been loose medical connections to opioid addiction and muscle deterioration. Your muscles get used to them and more or less fall apart once you go off of them. It's not really taught in mainstream settings yet, but the 90's is looked upon in the medical community for society's current meth epidemic. Something like 60-70% of people with opioid addictions started off with a legal prescription and those drugs are just so addicting it's hard for people to go off of them.

I don't pay attention to a wrestlers age anymore. I only care if they can still go or offer anything else to the product. I remember when 40 seemed like the end of the road for most but now they seem to go well into 45+ before you can kind of see the wheels start to come off. Always depends on a lot things. I can see Bobby probably rolling into at least 50 as a part timer.

It's kinda weird to think that just over 25 years ago, Vince was running commercials and skits about how old and geriatric guys like Hogan and Savage were when they were in their 40's.
Now we got main eventers and world Champions in their 40's and no one bats an eye.

(Also, Savage could still go in 1995-96. He only really broke down as a top performer in the late 90s. Vince really cut his nose off to spite himself by not using Macho Man as a veteran with credibility to help the next generation.)

It's only been the last 3 or so years that I've found Lashley even remotely interesting so for me he's basically a new guy

Yeah it's kinda annoying Macho was fit and ready to go at Wrestlemania 9 and he was just put on commentary. On a show that could really have used more star power too. We could have got Bret v Savage. And even if they didn't want to do another Bret face/face passing of the torch after just doing with Piper the year before then they could have done HBK/Savage for the IC title.

He did, and ever since I found this out (20+ years ago) I have had dreams of a Savage/Bret title feud akin to the Funk/Flair 89 one, and then being annoyed we never got it.

Closest I can recall is a face off during the Survivor series where they were on opposite teams. At one point in the match they both get tagged in, hop into the ring then both immediately paused when they noticed who they were facing, took a moment to size each other up before locking up, and the crowd ate it up like grandma’s cooking. The funny part is that I’m certain that the marquee matchup for the match was Savage/Dusty and the one moment that I retained from the match was those two actually briefly stopping the action to sell some unspoken drama.

Savage really would have been a great veteran presence during that era.

They also both started their wrestling career at around the same age (30-ish).

I love that CM Punk is younger than both of them, yet looks older than both of them.
Good.

There’s a full match recorded with a camcorder of a Savage-Bret 1994 match in Japan on YouTube.

Plus, he brought back Piper, Warrior, and Roberts around the same time. Kind of hypocritical to call Hogan and Savage out for being old when he brought three of their peers in.

Goldberg also stopped wrestling for years at a time. Staying in shape will have made a huge difference to Lashley
