I was never really a fan of the show he’s most known for. But being from the Cincy area myself, I still had to respect the guy.
Just a few additional tidbits about his career: - After his mayoral run but before his TV talk show, he was a news anchor for WLWT-TV in Cincy. (This was when I first became familiar with him.) - At the height of his TV show, he also hosted a nationally syndicated political talk radio show for a time, sort of a Rush Limbaugh-type show but coming from the other side. - Toward the end of his TV talk show, he teased getting back into politics with a run for Ohio governor, though it never came to fruition. - Most recently, he made a TV comeback with his ‘Judge Jerry’ show.

My favorite Jerry Springer thing was this blooper on his WWE Network show where they showed a clip of Paul Bearer and Kane in a graveyard, and the sledgehammer they were using on a gravestone or whatever it was broke. Paul Bearer goes, "Holy shit, no way....the sledgehammer broke!"

A very interesting and intriguing man who seemed like a nice man away from the controversial stuff, rest in peace sir. Yeah, the vibe that I got was that his tv persona was what brought in the big paychecks, but outside of it he was just a regular guy who loved his family. When he was on “Dancing With The Stars”, he said that the main reason he did it was so he could learn how to appropriately dance for his daughter’s wedding….that made my wife and I have an “Awwwww” moment and I gained a lot of respect for him that day Rest in peace Jerry and thank you for entertaining us for all these years.

Gutter trash TV. One of the few improvements mainstream entertainment has made in the last 20 years (Aside from 50% of us being less prejudiced) is the decline of vacuous goblin entertainment like Springer, Dr Phil, and Jeremy Kyle in the UK. What a disgusting contribution they made. Imagine dedicating your life to being a societal bear-baiter.
Granted, that audience gets their kicks online now or through more public avenues, but at least it's off the air.

90s icon, for better or worse. But a reminder that it was a different time indeed.

Didnt he have Razor Ramon on the show who gave his IC belt (not a replica, the actual IC belt) to a terminally ill child?

I'll admit that I enjoyed the trashiness of his show when I was younger, but it has certainly not aged well. RIP Jerry

Springer's show eventually became as staged as pro wrestling itself, especially when it became really outlandish, so it was kinda fitting he ended up involved with WWE on some level lol. It leaves behind a complicated legacy, but it's hard to downplay how influential (and popular) the show was in the 90's. Heard he was a really nice guy and class act away from the circus, too.
He also had a hell of a "coming to America" story. He was the son of Jewish German refugees and was born in a London Underground tunnel that was serving as a bomb shelter during WW2. His grandparents were killed in the Holocaust.
RIP Jerry.

The fact that he leaned into the sleaze at least kept the show entertaining. While I absolutely hated Maury for attempting to act like they "had a heart", Springer never really did so. For that alone, it was incredibly easy for me to be entertained by Springer, but absolutely loathe Maury.
While Springer wasn't a pioneer in this department, he most certainly mastered the art of it best. Only thing I didn't like was when an audience member would flash like it was Mardi Gras. Still, some of the segments where a member of the audience would get into a verbal clash with a guest. And how often would a guest who got into a fight proceed to remove their shirt, but keep the necktie on?
At my former job, there was a guy and girl who started working there. It was my task to train both of them, and it wasn't very long before the girl was trying to flirt with me, as well as leave little notes at my desk. I never reciprocated her feelings, especially since I was her boss, but I didn't report it since it largely didn't bother me and I didn't want to get her in trouble. Anyways, they both quit a few months later...and about 6 months after that, I was watching TV and they both were on a segment of Springer. It was actually a very mundane segment, no fighting or anything, but just how she has cheated on him. They apparently later both claimed it was made up, but given her behavior around me, especially when her boyfriend wasn't around, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was true. And in an alternate universe, I somehow ended up on Springer.

Me and my mom were huge fans growing up. Actually dressed up as him for Halloween one year and won a prize for it.

Jerry had a weird ability to have a hateable show but not be hateable himself.
Like how Jeremy Kyle came across as vile, Jerry was kinda like your favorite uncle or something.

Also if true, the source isn't the most reliable,Jamie Dundee and Madman Pondo were in charge of getting the guests for springer for a bit. Back in 96 or 97 a friend from the army appeared on Rowanda. The topic was "my Parents hate my black boyfriend." Beth, not her name, had not only never met the "boyfriend" until the day of taping. But also Beth was happily married to someone at the time. Learned from her that one agency booked most of the guests for every daytime talk show besides Oprah. Someone who worked for the Springer show did an AMA years ago, said about 40% of the show was legit while the rest was scripted. Daytime talk shows started faking/scripting guests after a guest on the Jenny Jones show was murdered by a fellow guest after their appearance in 1995. Even the legit guests are instructed to play up the drama for ratings.

When I was in high school, Dude was at the forefront of junk TV and I loved it.
For some reason I remember seeing his "Too Hot For TV" tape played during health class at my high school
I just rememebred the time I was almost a guest on the Jerry Springer show, so me, my girlfriend at the time and this other couple we knew were in talks with the Jerry springer show as guests. They wanted us to make up a story about why we all wanted to beat each other up and they would fly us out to chicago, in retrospect I'm glad we didn't actually go
