Honestly the theatrical requirement for Oscars is completely stupid in its own right.

Here's something I didn't know Nasty mathematics, I tell you. If the studios won't do right by writers and actors, the Academy should: put it in writing that only official theatrical releases can be nominated, no exceptions. Nip this "in theaters long enough for an award, but not long enough for proper compensation" shit in the bud immediately. It would be a small step compared to the studios just paying what they owe, but it would be a small step in the right direction.

I've seen some talk on my timeline today about how the average person isn't even aware of the strikes currently going on, and probably won't notice until scripted fall TV doesn't start like it usually does. Then barely ten minutes later, someone in a fandom i'm in started complaining about how they were losing interest in a particular actor because he has no upcoming projects announced. The timing of it all, ugh.

He's right, assuming that the main obstacles to getting a deal done are those streamers. All of the other studios making a deal and essentially blackballing Amazon/Netflix would force those two to agree to a deal.

I doubt Netflix and Amazon are the only problems here while you've got Iger continually acting like a supervillain and being confused that people are mad at him for it.

Imagine being such a cartoon villain that your PUBLIC statement is that you would sooner drag this out until strikers lose their homes than pay them a fraction of a fraction more in revenue, and being shocked that the public is thoroughly repulsed by that. This crosses over into farcical when you remember that, between Disney Classic, the Star Wars IP, and the Marvel IP alone, at least 80 percent of Walt Disney Corp's revenue comes from people rooting for people like the strikers to triumph over people like Bob Iger. Bob doesn't know it yet, but he is likely inspiring the next big villain to come out of a Disney production.

Good! If this can finally, finally spark some kind of union within those big companies, it’ll be the best thing to happen to the video game industry in years, especially after the Volition closure a couple of days ago.

This has been coming for some time now. Get the programmers involved, and Rockstar (along with every other company) would shit bricks.

To add further to the “Goddamn, these studios are dumbasses” pile, Taylor Swift pitched to all the studios about distributing her concert movie and, allegedly, they all wanted all the profits or nothing. So it’s now being released independently through her and her father to theatres.
How’s that going? Well…
Like…that feels like an easy slam dunk when studios are delaying films in theatres, right? Jeez…
