They got major pay increases and major protections against AI anything
They really made out like bandits in this deal and good for them for f***ing sticking to it
So much for Hollywood being prepared to starve them out. Eat good everyone!

Now it’s SAG-AFTRA’s turn, and here’s hoping they get as big a win as WGA did.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think SNL can't comeback till the SAG strike is settled.

I wondered about SNL because variety shows are covered under the Network TV Code IIRC. But SNL has a lot of skits with acting, so maybe it doesn't count for that. Maybe it'd cover stuff like the monologue and Weekend Update but that's it.

After looking through the reported ins and outs of the deal, it certainly looks like the WGA got a lot of what they wanted. I can’t see this being considered anything other than a huge win for the writers, and a huge win for the film and television industry.

Yeah but WU can work without those characters.
Granted that doesn't cover all the other content that'd be considered acting. Monologue, WU, and musical performances is 3-4 segments max out of many, many more that are acted skits.

What more adds to it is that this new deal is worth $220m a year to writers after the originally rejected $86m a year deal. Like, imagine holding off for so long, spreading what was essentially propaganda to the broadsheets and ending up having to pay $660m for three years for it. There are Super Bowls with less costly stumbles.

My understanding is conventional wisdom with a strike is to ask for triple and hope for double, so the fact they effectively got triple on top of all of the other concessions is a huge victory.

And as an added bonus, they put the studio execs in a position where they outed themselves as even bigger scumbags that most people thought, and how little power they actually hold. Hopefully the next time contract negotiations roll around all the unions will have to do is:

It's almost like trying to face writers in a game of "do something for a long time without making any money" was a bad idea.

Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Lori Alan and John O’Hurley have all made contributions to the SAG Foundation for performers in desperate need.

I immediately recognized the name John O'Hurley... from Seinfeld. Can't believe I never clocked that was King Neptune. Love the "we" mentality of the Guilds throughout these strikes. That united front is what unions are for.
