There was no picketing Monday by SAG-AFTRA members due to the Indigenous Peoples Day holiday, but the leadership of the actors guild did return to the bargaining table with the studios and streamers.

After wrapping up its latest negotiation session at SAG-AFTRA’s Wilshire Boulevard offices, chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and other guild leaders will meet again with the CEOs Gang of Four and the AMPTP in two days.

“SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP held negotiations and have concluded for the day,” the parties said in an increasingly common joint statement this evening. “Bargaining will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with the parties working independently on Tuesday.”

The one-day-on, one-day-off approach has been the norm for SAG-AFTRA and the studios since they began renewed talks a week ago.

“It’s a process, we’re working through the process,” a source close to the talks told Deadline on Monday. The three polite but intense bargaining sessions last week involved monologues from both sides of the table and a deep divide over SAG-AFTRA’s revenue-sharing proposal. Today saw the guild and studio reps return to talks from a weekend examining proposals as they aim to end the actors’ almost three-month-long strike.

As was the case last week, Warner Bros Discovery’s David Zaslav, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley and Disney’s Bob Iger were in attendance Monday with AMPTP president Carol Lombardini. The CEOs are expected to participate at the next face-to-face session.

Along with the somber tone across Hollywood due to the horrific attacks on Israel that began over the weekend, today’s SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP talks come the same day WGA membership on both coasts ratified a new three-year Minimum Basic Agreement with a landslide mandate.

SAG-AFTRA picketing is expected to resume Tuesday in Los Angeles at Sony, Disney, Warner Bros and Paramount lots from 9 a.m.-noon PT. In New York City, the guild and supporters will be out at Paramount, NBCUniversal’s 30 Rock HQ, Amazon/HBO and Warner Bros Discovery/Netflix from 9:30 a.m.-noon ET

It’s super weird that sources aren’t making up anything too elaborate at this point through the trades. Just “Negotiations are ongoing” which was literally said in the joint statements.

I did hear a point where SAG-AFTRA might have dropped AI provisions in negotiations but that seemed to have come and gone really quickly unlike everything else that had come up before so I’ll just say there’s nothing to it for now.

Unless they've gotten massive concessions beyond what they're asking for in terms of streaming royalties and the like, there's no way rank and file members would accept AI usage with lifetime ownership of background actor likenesses. The studios would need to be immensely generous in the short term to get them to swallow that bitter pill.

Disney was offering 150 dollars for using their likeness with AI.

Not for Everytime it was used, but get paid just that once and Disney can use your likeness forever

EXCLUSIVE, UPDATED with PGA statement: More than 2,300 film and TV producers on Tuesday are delivering a message to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers: leave us out. The group delivered a petition to AMPTP President Carol Lombardini this morning demanding the dropping of the “P” from the acronym of the organization that just concluded a brutal negotiation with the WGA, and hopefully is in the final stages of a SAG-AFTRA deal after one of the longest strikes in Hollywood history.

Taking them out of a labor fight they were never part of is just the first step in what producers hope will lead to a redrawing of rules that leave them without health care, and being the last to be paid despite them being the early catalysts for film and TV projects.

This was posted in the MCU thread but if anyone wants a good background in why a Writer's Strike happened in the first place, this feels like a good small percentage of what writers were going through (and still are considering).

Also, they're already bringing in Showrunners to upcoming projects which I hope are changed to Lombardinis from now on in honor of the person who helped them achieve it.

I think it's the whole net vs. gross argument all over again. Studios will have a much harder time Hollywood Accounting their way out of sharing revenue compared to sharing profit.

Or, and probably most plausible, there simply aren't any profits to share. If streaming was a profitable business model, services wouldn't be raising prices like there's no tomorrow and putting ads into previously ad-free subscription tiers.
