The Hunger Games prequel’s been given a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement so anyone acting in it can promote the film before the November release.

Deadline seems to think that we might be on the final stretch towards a deal but, again, trades so take it with a pinch of salt for the time being. Basically; no, a deal isn’t close, AI is a major sticking point (even though a recent executive order might help with things) but negotiations will go on this week.

They absolutely have to get AI right. I think that's THE fundamental issue and they cannot give any real ground on that to the corpos.

But in other news going into 2024… I haven't seen any Wish news, but why the f*** does the main character look exactly like Isabela from Encanto? Is this a continuation?

Encanto is based in Colombia and Latin America's tradition of magical realism. Wish is apparently set near Spain and Portugal. Don't think the two are related.

You sure the writers still aren’t on strike because it feels like we’re in a rerun.

Morgan Freeman: (VOICEOVER) "It was not, in fact, their last, best, or final offer."

"Listen guys this is our last offer. If you don't accept it, we'll have no choice but to operate our film and TV studios without human actors"

"Listen guys this is our last offer. If you don't accept it, we'll have no choice but to operate our film and TV studios without human actors" That's what gets me about this whole thing; you need actors. Period. Trying to play hardball with folks you're going to have to eventually strike up a deal with is shooting yourself in the foot, leg, arm, and knee.

The studios want to use AI so they won't need actors. And seem to not want to budge on that. It’s less that straight forward and more that they want the option to do so. And most of the assumption to actors seems to be “We’ll be allowed to do this but we won’t do it much, trust us” when they’ve already put AI models in stuff and scanned extras. And to add to this, if there’s no need for actors, there’s no need for sets, crew or even a reason to film in another location and in turn wreck an entire industry all to cut costs.

We're already seeing some of that happen with how many productions are ditching full sets and location filming for The Volume when it seemed like it was only going to replace green screens.

Like, at best, it would only help one small part of Los Angeles, California for the people who maintain The Volume off stuff.. If you give these people the green light or at least the permission, you’d just have writers writing for a bunch of nerds with computers by the time we get to the new set of negotiations in three years or even the start of that being more common.

And when these uncanny valley nightmares crash and burn, they may rethink their views on human actors.

It is funny how the statement from SAG-AFTRA basically saying "We're looking into making sure this deal is right before we agree and pitch it to members because it's sort of massive" is being spun by the trades as "THEY'RE STALLING! THE TOTAL DISRESPECT!"
Like, we all know by now they're going to take the studio's side with this stuff but man, when you're ignoring the tactics of the studios this whole time (stalling on the deal in the first place so some movies can be promoted, walking out when a part of the deal didn't suit, general disinterest in coming back to the table), it makes things pretty damn clear.

This might shock all of you, considering what happened just a couple of months ago, but SAG-AFTRA did not accept the “last, best and final offer”.
