This might shock all of you, considering what happened just a couple of months ago, but SAG-AFTRA did not accept the “last, best and final offer”. Man, the studios really don't wanna budge on AI, huh? All the more reason to keep applying pressure. If the studios want another year in the hole after they just started bouncing back from the shutdowns, they can keep playing around.

This sure is some sick shit isn't it? Trying to wait on the actors to basically go "Yes, make our jobs potentially redundant in 10 years". Not because AI is essential to them making money, no no no. Not because the actors are asking so much that they can't turn any profit. Quite the contrary, actually- studios will still make a ridiculous amount of money. No, because AI might drive costs down lower and the share price higher.
It's not a case of not having enough money, it's a case of not having all of the money. There are dinosaurs at the top driving this in part, but it's also a case of tech bros running amok to get the high score. It's the same thing we're seeing in the Musk thread, where Enron wasn't happy just having Twitter and instead is pushing for this bizarre WeChat app centralization. Most people in America can't even agree if mustard should be on their hot dogs, let alone what app to use for what function.

The deal is literally never going to get done unless this shit gets kicked to the curb Like idk what makes them think they can do this at all let alone them thinking they can just present it and they'll be TOTALLY cool with accepting it, f***ing morons.

David Slack also has a very lengthy and informative Twitter thread about all of this in a wider context.

I'm wondering about all of this, so basically, once an actor dies, that's when they could really get them as they wouldn't need permission am I right?
I also think about the likelihood of a studio wanting to use a lot of the people from the past in place of real life actors.
I mean, I can see them wanting to use Anthony Guiness as Obi Wan again, I guess? But how would a lot of actors who passed decades ago be relatable to a modern day audience?
I love Jack Benny, but I don't see them using his likeness as the fanbase probably isn't there.
So many questions

The "last, best, and final offer" lasted two days. All these companies are worth more than most of the Southern Hemisphere combined and have legal teams that are the equivalent of a country’s weapons Arsenal, how are they all so terrible at this?

Because they only care about profit margins. I truly hope this goes so long studios have no choice but to give in and stop robbing everyone blind.

Seeing Microsoft propose the use of AI to replace small NPC roles in video games, that potential strike against the game industry will be as important, if not moreso, to voice actors as this current strike is to screen actors. Worst case scenario without any AI protection, it outright kills the voice acting industry for video games and stagnates the VA industry as a whole.

WE HAVE A (tentative) DEAL!
Nothing yet publicly from SAG but members have gotten emails saying a deal has been approved and will be pitched to members tomorrow.
EDIT: Feel like people writing headlines need to know what the word “Tentative” means, especially since it’s very different from the word “confirmed” or “definitive” and certainly not a word to associate with “THE STRIKE IS OVER!!!1”
EDIT 2: So the strike itself is over because the deal was unanimously voted by the committee from Thursday but, again, cannot be stressed, if the members themselves do not approve, those same people will have to go back to the table so, again, part of it is over. The studios aren’t out of the woods yet.
