If Norway can't even win with that song I can't see how we will win anytime soon.

Norway were the victims of it being such a solid year across the board. Any other year and they'd have been top two. I think it may be the song from this contest that has legs though, it feels like something that will gain another life after the contest as it's an earworm.

No one was beating Loreen. She's way too good.
Poor effort from the UK. You don't follow Sam Ryder's awesome song in 2022 with a Megan Trainor knock off and a singer with a flat voice.
Great show overall. Well done Liverpool.

Semi-final results have been released.
Malta finished last in semi-final 1 (WTF). San Marino and Romania tied for last in semi-final 2 with nul points.

Hours later, I still can't believe Dadi Freyr covering Atomic Kitten was a thing that happened.

Germany, Norway and particularly Finland were the standouts this year, Sweden felt like a very safe and political choice by the juries. It's an ok song but like, where's the drama, where's the camp, where's anything to attach to?

She's just a talented performer who knows what she's doing without silly gimmicks.

Apparently Sweden didn't get a single 12 from the televote.
The public and the jury panels have evidently different opinions

She's just a talented performer who knows what she's doing without silly gimmicks. Depends on what you come to Eurovision for. When I think of it, the camp/kitsch value of it is a key component to me. Years down the line, I'm gonna remember the neon energism of Käärijä, the sexy androgynous rock and roll of Måneskin, the horror aesthetics of Lordi, the vampiric leanings of Cezar. In the words of Jim Steinman, if you don't go over the top, how are you gonna see what's on the other side? Not to shit on Loreen, she's definitely a competent singer, but it struck me as just a very safe but ultimately forgettable song that won more because the juries wanted the contest in Sweden next year for the Abba anniversary than because people thought it was a standout.

It’s interesting to me how last year had complaints of political televoting while this year has complaints of political jury voting.
Yes, Loreen didn’t get 12 points from the televote, but it’s worth noting she also still finished 2nd in the televote even without 12 points so it’s not like the song was unpopular with the public.

Loreen was painfully competent, the kind of song that does well in places where the camp/strange songs don't play well with the juries, and that was enough to carry her over. I don't believe it was rigged, she was just good enough and safe.

Yeah, I think people's love for Finland has caused them to make out like Sweden's song was bad and it was all rigged by the jury vote. Both were the clear two best songs/performances in the competition, and would've been very worthy winners. Of all the UK entries that have done terribly, Mae probably had the best song. But she looked like a contestant in a competition full of pop stars.

I don't believe it was rigged, she was just good enough and safe. It did pretty well across the board looking at it. You kind of have to to get that many points. Equally, I think it Sweden will have lost a lot of public votes because it was such a heavy favourite. It's notable that the only time they didn't score any points was in the Finnish public vote.

So if Australia had won this would they have hosted next year?
IMO they could have won they had a decent song which I probably thought was the best. Certainly most enjoyable along with Austria, Finland, Belgium & Moldova. Belgium imo had the best pure pop song of the contest.
The Sweden song was fine but not sure it would make my top 10. It was a safe and boring choice.
The UK’s entry again was fine but probably didn’t deserve to do as badly as it did. Also think Germany’s entry deserved better than last place since it was pretty catchy and there’s a load of songs in this contest that were instantly forgettable.

The UK song was fine, but her performance was flat and on a night with so many good outings, it was nobody's first choice, nor even their sixth.

Israel won the Rest of the World vote in semi-final 1 and the grand final.
Shockingly, Albania won the the Rest of the World vote in semi-final 2.
