Kind of weird how Vince grew up around and idolising wrestlers who were as wide as they are tall with working, rather than decorative muscle that could shoot throw people like they were stuffed with newspaper, and go on to punish the ones under his employ for not looking like Superman 365 days a year Also, a fully grown Toots Mondt is what I imagine Brock Lesnar's kids look like as newborn babies. Unsettlingly muscular giant baby. It's been said by multiple people that Vince actually loves technical wrestling and stuff... he just doesn't think it sells to the masses like the superhero faces do. You know that has to be frustrating, to build an empire and want as much control as Vince, yet he can't give the product HE wants as it wouldn't go over with fans the universe.

He treated Andre like a greyhound, worked him continually through the early 80s, had him travel continually as his body fell apart then made him spend most of his final days as an active wrestler as a heel when he was utterly miserable being booed, in constant pain and getting pummeled by clods in his fragile state. Seriously, he needed to be handled like he was made of glass when filming the Pricess Bride because of his condition and Vince still had him work with Warrior after his health had deteriorated even further rather than just turning him face and letting him go out a hero in his final run of passable matches. Andre was also close to Rita Chatterton and one of the few people she was close to backstage so he went to his grave hating Vince. Andre kept going though after he left the WWF. Did he do many matches in Japan? I remember someone claimed he loved the sport so much he made the decision to keep wrestling when he should have stopped.

There are all kinds of things that I've heard he personally enjoys that he's convinced won't sell, but I think probably will. He's meant to personally be a fan of tag team wrestling too, and I'm sure once said he thought the ideal length of a wrestling TV show is about ninety minutes. I mean, that actually sounds far more appealing than the three hour slogs every week now.

Listening to episode six now. This entire thing has been amazing.

Probably going to get to listening to these now that they're all up. Guessing the "bloody conclusion" thing means they're ending on Owen Hart, but definitely think you could do an entire extra episode or two on the decades since.

Yeah, I’ve never really heard that stuff on Andre before. Where do they source the stories from for this podcast?

It's why they started out as specials to compromise. But the network tossed them insane money in exchange so USA got 3 hour raws.

Andre kept going though after he left the WWF. Did he do many matches in Japan? I remember someone claimed he loved the sport so much he made the decision to keep wrestling when he should have stopped. Yeah, I’ve never really heard that stuff on Andre before. Where do they source the stories from for this podcast? They seem to pull from a variety of sources. Interviews, court documents, in depth books about specific times during wrestling. It comes across as pretty in depth and well researched. And shit, I knew Vince was a terrible human being but...wow. Also, did not have a clue about any of the {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Pat Patterson child molestation stuff. I will say that them walking through the storyline of the Ministry of Darkness and the High Power is absolutely hilarious. I remember the storyline but as a young wrestling fan. To hear it described out loud with little context is f***ing hilarious.

Always found it kind of insane how usually when it is brought up people tend to quickly brush it aside.

They were an entertaining listen but they didn't really give me anything new. I have been asked about Vince from some folks that listen, though, so it was a reminder that the point of this is to reach new audiences.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the Patterson accusations ended up not having any credibility to them, and he seemed to be lumped in with other parties that were actually credibly accused like Garvin, just because of Patterson’s homosexuality. I think Graham even admitted later on that he made up the stuff about Patterson that he said on the Phil Donahue show.

Do they spend much time contextualizing Vince in the broader scheme of pop culture and how he may have helped shaping the political landscape? Because that would interest me beyond anecdotes I may have heard a thousand times.

I'm listening through these now and I feel like some indie wrestler needs to look up every story they can on Jerry Graham and just make that their gimmick. This guy's incredible in his batshittery. Do they spend much time contextualizing Vince in the broader scheme of pop culture and how he may have helped shaping the political landscape? Because that would interest me beyond anecdotes I may have heard a thousand times. I've not gotten super far into it yet but they do bring that up at the start so I imagine it's gone into a bit later.

I’m 2 and half episodes in and I’m torn on my feelings about the podcast. Great info but the host is so snarky.

I think the hardest thing about all this is realising people knew.
From a wrestling fan's perspective, it's easy to lose track of what things about the sport that are common knowledge and what are things we know and have slipped under the radar, but so much of the things we know and hate Vince for made the news and he got away with.
People knew and he just got away with it, people in power just kept on giving him money.

Ugh, that list of early deaths.
Hits a bit different now that I’m 36.

I think I feel what some people feel about TLF with this show. This host really seems to think he is much better than he is. Just my opinion though.

I'm fine with the host because he's interacting with other people with a (relatively) light rapport. If he was by himself, I would've tuned out after the first episode.
I can't deal with Lapsed Fan because the hosts take themselves way too seriously.
